Those are great pics Eric 
I have been saving my judgement on the looks of th 997 until non-camo pics showed up, kinda like these. But I was afraid of this in the end: it looks like a "995" on the pics. Definately not a step foward in design. (my wife said it looks like a cross between a 996 and a beetle
) So... when is the 998 coming out? just joking 
I guess we will have to see it in person really to decide.

Yeah i can see what you mean by "995" but i really like how it looks....its what the 996 should have been, in my oppinion.

First time I'm commenting on the 997, if it does look like older Porsche's, then I don't think I like the design. I mean the Porsche design is already so many decades old, the 996 was the only one amongst them that really looked different, this 997 reverting to old round headlamps is a step back if anything.
Why can't they take the 996 and make everything more aggressive and curvy?
And just an objective opinion, 4 exhausts suit V8 cars, 4 exhausts on a 6 cylinder engine are giving misconceptions, no matter how powerful it can be.
The new SLK is taking design cues from the SLR, and so will the SL be, why can't the 911 look like a CGT at least from the front?

I think Porsche knows exactly what they are doing with the 997. It does have OVAL headlamps which somewhat mimic the headlamps of the 993 and there is nothing wrong with that at all. The 997 and the 993 are two completely different cars though they do share some traits, but aren't they supposed to? The 997 afterall is a 911. And "resivoirdog" I couldn't agree with you more, in a way it is as if Porsche is making up for lost time(the 996) with the design of the 997. CGT influence is abundant in the front with the air dam and the shape of the front design. I think once we see offical pics we will see that the 997 is throughly modern looking.
