Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

the 911 Gt3 sounds very good ! the sound seems the 996 gt3 cup ,and its louder than carrera's PSE .
I don't know if the sport button opens the valves ...

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

    great news Sergio!

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

    excellent!!

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

So the question is how much more $ will it be?

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

Impressive Thank you very much !
I dont know yet though if i like this colour...

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

Thanks for posting - same power and only 44 lbs lighter does not seem that impressive. I wonder if the motor actually makes more power, but they are being silent about that, so that the motor does not require re-certification in the US...

So your little "birdie" told you the truth.

Thank's RC for the correct explanation of my post.
The sound is great. Tomorrow RC and myself will give you a little taste.

The sound can be heard at the website too btw... for all you eager ears!

Maybe we can do it better? Maybe we can show you a little video? Maybe, maybe, maybe

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

Its nice to see Factory stripes again.

Take your choice of only 4 paint colors: Green, Black, Silver and Orange.

The RS and regular 997GT3 have identical gears:

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

So the price increase is justified by:
    - 20kg less
    - wide-body
    - bucket seats (seem to be included, right?)

Is that it? For EUR 18k (without taxes)?

And different suspension (wheel carriers and split wishbones), some carbon fibre body parts, rear wing, and graphics...

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

I don't get it, they better have some nice lap time difference to justify the price...

Yeah, I hate to say it, but I think the $20k could be spent to much greater effect with aftermarket gear for the track driver. I think the RS is better for the collector...

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

OK, so based on what's been published, here's what $20k gets you:

Special colors (orange, green), limited color range
    Decals
    Painted wheels
    CGT-esque seats
    Ltw fly
    Half cage
    Widebody
34mm increased rear track due to lower offset rear wheels
    Plastic rear window
    Carbon wing
    -40lbs

    --------------

There is some debate as to the differences in suspension components (uprights, wishbones), but Porsche's own comparo document seems to indicate that the suspensions are identical.

The press release talks of carbon fiber components. Haven't seen any details on what those are besides the rear wing.

Hmmm. Seems the GT3 is the better value. Do the above differences (if that is all there is) merit the RS badge?

No. Let's hope there's more that we don't know yet. To be honest, the 996GT3RS was a pretty modest improvement over the GT3 MkII also and sort of marginally deserved that moniker too. IMHO, RS should mean significantly less weight and significantly more power.

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

    One other detail:
Wheel base is 2360mm on GT3RS and it is 2355mm on GT3.
Total car lenght is 4460mm on GT3RS and 4445mm on GT3.

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

    very little differences

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

I think the total car lenght comes from the rear and vront spoilers, which might add a tiny bit to the lenght :-S

Yes. Full CF body, lightweight buckets, powered windows and A/C optional. Basically a stripped down car with an emphasis on performance. Had they made the body full carbon fiber, they could have saved another 100 kilograms or so. Also, remove the heavy PASM, as it has no place on a car like this and install a real race car suspension. Simply keep the electronics as scarce as possible, so anyone wishing a lightweight racer can actually get it with an RS car. I'm sure Porsche could have gone under 1200 kilograms if they really wanted to.

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

yeah, but the way they did it now, they were able to combine standard components (C4 body, GT3 suspension) and a couple of new parts (wing, rearlid) to a new model... I think it would have cost a lot more to have too many model-unique parts, like a CF body.

True. But it would justify the "RS" in its name. This car does not. On second thought, take the narrowbody with all the options I listed. Why use the widebody anyway? And add 20 horsepower.

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

the power would not be absolute necessity, but a lot less weight and more distinct suspension, brakes and transmission
    (ideally pdk!)

Indeed, but the 996 RS seemed to offer far more over the base model than this does at face value. Of course they didn't really push the fact it had a modified head+mapping and made more power on the 996 RS. At least there were suspension mods to the uprights etc, but given the 997 GT3 has apparently already taken most of those advancements from the 996 RS, perhaps there isn't much to add?

I was hoping for more power and less weight...

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

The 996 GT3 was a brilliant but flawed car. Terrible suspension geometry that I could discern from day one, and complained about one way or another.

The RS was said to update the suspension, but when I owned the GT3, I couldn't get a clear answer on this issue, so I eventually sold the car.

With the suspension geometry flaws addressed with the 997 GT3, perhaps, in a way, the RS is going to have that much of a tougher time being special w/o resorting to special colors and a widebody.

Re: NEW 997 GT3 RS Details

Well, you can't blame Porsche for making the 997 GT3 a great car...
