    997 GT2 is coming...more details

Specs aren't final yet, so please take it with a grain of salt:

    1. aprox. 520-530 HP
    2. PASM
    3. price tag beyond good and evil
    4. the most sensational thing: PSM (it seems that TC wasn't safe enough for non-professional drivers)
    5. introduction around early spring 2007 (next year!)

Please don't ask about more details like PSK, etc., this is more than you get anywhere (with that precision... ).

    What exactly does this mean?

Is "Good" the speculative banter puting it only 10-15k more than the Turbo?

Is the "Bad" the 996 tag?

Just curious, but awesome specs otherwise!

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

$50K above the 997TT is what I would call "beyond good and evil".

Given the 599GTB selling at around EUR 220k with 620hp there will not be much headroom for the GT2. If it should be priced above EUR 180k nobody will buy it, given its low hp figure and not so impressive accelaration figues. 180k would be OK.

How do you justify a $50k premium over the Turbo with only a 10% increase in power and less AWD?

Seems to me $160k would be fair.

Yes, PSM would be great and would make this car a sales hit. Acceleration to 300 km/h will probably match that of the F620, so the price of about Euro 190.000 is probably not out of the ballpark.
So, MKSGR, are you getting a GT2?

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

    OK guys, what is PSM?

    wow, this is The Rocket!
if gt2 will handle as gt3 (it wasn't in the 996 serie) will be The Choice

    I don't understand

The new Turbo is already an impressive performer so the GT2 with even more power and less weight should be a killer...

maybe you know something I don't

He was comparing it to the F620. I can understand his sentiments, although I wouldn't call any turbo Porsche made during the last five years slow .
I personally don't think the GT2 will be slower than the F620. Just look at the Turbo, already dipping below 12 seconds with Sport Chrono. The GT2, with at least 100-150 kg less weight and 50 more horsepower, will be much faster. I predict the same performance as the RS Tuning GT2, tested in 2003. 7 seconds from 100 to 200 km/h and a top speed of 330 km/h. Fast enough for you, MKSGR?

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

Sorry if i misunderstood you MKSGR ....

I also think the GT2 will be faster than the 599... On the Autobahn, on track and drag style...

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

    A few clarifications:
price tag beyond good and evil means that it is going to be around the same price tag like the "old" 996 GT2 MkII.
Performance-wise, the GT2 will be a blast BUT it will NOT be faster than the 997 Turbo Tip from 0-100 kph due to the missing AWD.
Weight difference should be in the 80 kg range, NOT 150 kg range.

Performance from 0-200 kph is rumored to be around 11 seconds, top speed is rumored to be around 320-325 kph.

Sorry, this is REALLY all I got. And no, no PDK announced yet.

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

thank you for your info RC

Why sorry? That's more than we got anywhere else. This sounds like an excellent car. However, does the 80 kg difference mean that the GT2 actually gained weight?

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

0-100 KPH is no good as a measure anymore, all traction, im sure the GT2 will out pull the turbo pretty well, i wonder how it will do compared to the ferrari. its not a real competitor, but the 599 is a good 500 lbs heavier too...up to maybe 150 the P should take it..

The acceleration figure to 300 km/h should be somewhere in the range of 28-30 seconds. The Enzo did 26. I doubt the 620 will beat it.

In Dollars. It will cost less in Euros.

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

    997 GT2 0-100km/h: 28s to 30s??!!
Well, I do not think so... Look at data from AMS tests:

    996 GT2(462hp) 2001 0-300km/h: 40.9s 1446kg
    996 GT2(483hp) 2003 0-300km/h: 39.1s 1450kg

So, even at 530hp(and IF 530hp!) and better aerodynamics new 997 GT2 can not be 12s faster then old 996 GT2 from 0-300km/h...

Few more examples tested by AMS:
    Porsche CGT 0-300km/h: 34.2s
    Mercedes SLR 0-300km/h: 30.6s
    Ferrari Enzo 0-300km/h: 26.1s

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

The 997 GT2 sounds like the perect car to me. Less weight, more power and RWD cannot be a bad thing. Of course, RUF already do this. So why wait a year?

    AUM

Kreso, you mustn't forget VTG. Also, the 2003 test of an RS Tuning GT2:

    542 PS and 755 Nm:

    Test in sport auto 8/2002
    Gewicht 1420 kg
    0 - 80 km/h 2,9 s
    0 - 100 km/h 3,7 s
    0 - 120 km/h 5,0 s
    0 - 140 km/h 6,1 s
    0 - 160 km/h 7,3 s
    0 - 180 km/h 9,3 s
    0 - 200 km/h 10,7 s
    0 - 300 km/h 28,5 s
    Vmax 330 km/h

With improved aerodynamics I don't see a problem with the car reaching such values. Also, don't forget the extra 50 PS. They do wonders at high speeds.

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

OK Andrej! Drink is on me if you are right!
And imagine bitter taste in CGT owners mouth if you are right(CGT 0-300km/h: 34.2s)...
BTW, VTG will be(and is!) limiting factor in tuning 997 Turbo or 997 GT2. What do you think will be power kit(X50) on 997 Turbo? Detuned 997 GT2 engine! Only few things-will it use more boost(I am sceptical here, VTGs are pretty new)?
Since 997 Turbo is already using 1.2bar boost... Or will Porsche increase engine size to 3746ccm(Bore 102mm-standard 100mm on 3600ccm on 997 Turbo/GT3)? What is your guess?
