"STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

Next time you go to your dealer, fire this link at him to demonstrate the problem.

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

My CDR 24 started with the "STOP-Problem" and then went to the "No-Reaction-At-All-No-Matter-What-Button-You-Press"-Problem.

These are the symptoms: CD keeps playing, but you cannot eject, stop, rew or ff it. All buttons are dead. You even cannot switch back to the radio or regulate the volume.

    Temp. fix:
remove the fuse and put it back in. The CDR24 starts to operate like it should (for 1-2 days). Then it goes back to "dead-mode" (while getting on your nerves with one and the same audio CD being played back again and again...

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

Whoa, that's a LOT worse than my problem!

Keep a digital camera in your car that can take movies, like I do!

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

On the CDR-23 this used toi happen - depressing the TP button in conjunctions with the 1 and 4 radio preset buttons for approx 5 seconds used to cure it. I had the STOP once on my CDR24, tried the same and it worked.

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

Have same pro blem plus Radio now occassional works OK but no display at all and all controls are not lite with lights on
    Any ? suggestions.
What will my Dealer do ?

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

Well, MY dealer replaced the stereo twice to no avail. Yours would hopefully do something similar.

Percymon: I'll have to try that next time. It sounds really lame though.

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

Lame it may be, but Porsche Germany got so fed up of getting supposedly faulty CDR23s back from the UK dealers (after swapping units under warranty)only to find them work fine on the test bench, that they gave them this combo of buttons to try as a reset.

No doubt saved them a few bucks !!

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

True, but since this is the US, I'm thinking the threat of a class-action might get Porsche to realize that these kind of measures aren't satisfactory. I wouldn't make any money or get any real compensation from a class-action lawsuit, and it sickens me to give money to lawyers, but I figure Porsche would probably feel the same way...

I'm driving a Hyundai Sonata right now. Its stereo works better than the one in my Boxster. This is not right.

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

I'm not sure what you point is, you have twice the warranty period of us in the UK, and a delaer network that seems to bend over backwards to resolve issue. If you're not happy, tell the dealer and they'll swap out the unit in no time.

You are overlooking the fact that the rules got changed after the Wild West was tamed!

The new version is: "Litigate first, ask questions afterwards".

I think you missed the part up there where I said the dealer has already swapped my stereo twice. In fact, he told me today that they just swapped it AGAIN.

This is not a simple defect with a single unit.

Contrary to the whole US stereotype, I'm not someone who threatens lawsuits at the drop of the hat. I have given Porsche a whole year to rectify this problem, I think that's pretty generous, don't you guys?

Dont Leave CD's In The Player

I have seen this same issue in other car stereos other than Porsche. It happened in a JVC, it happens in my Audi, used to happen in my Acura too...

The stereo would go crazy. Would not play, would get stuck, etc... Simple solution was I dont leave a CD in the player when I turn the car off. EVER.

I know it sounds bizarre but the symptoms stopped when I stopped leaving the CD in there. As a matter of fact unless I am listening to the CD I dont leave one in there at all.

I couldn't resist dropping in that re-interpretation of "Shoot first, ask questions afterwards" motto, eslai, even though I know that it implies a "whole US stereotype" which is deplored just as much by many (most?) Americans as it causes mystified head-shaking amongst non-Americans.

It was in no way aimed at you personally.

It IS deplored by most Americans, and abhorred by most American businesses. No one should be surprised though. Americans pride themselves on their entrepreneurship. Litigious attorneys are simply being entrepreneurial.

Re: "STOP" message on your 987 stereo?

I understand completely, I make fun of our litigous nature too.

The dealer was instructed by their Porsche rep to replace my stereo yet again. I am now on my fourth one. The rep said that the last one that they put in my car had the latest software, but perhaps I got a bum one last time? RIiiiight. I'm supposed to let them know if the problems persist...

    my cd is stuck

in my 987 my cd is stuck : display says No Disk but doesn t eject
any paperclip tricks as on a Apple computer ?

    Re: my cd is stuck

I had the same problem on my 987 after parking it for a week. I drove it to work with the stereo "stuck". Parked it for the day and when I got in it at the end of the work day it was fine.

Not sure what the fix is

I had some similar problems occasionally. When I went to the dealer the service writer said there is a TSB for this problem. However it was my impression that it was only for those with PCM, which I have. I was advised there is a software update to deal with this problem. Since getting the update I haven't had any "gremlins." I'm not sure if this applies to those who don't have PCM.
