    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

If it has 530hp (turbo) less weight and such a stiff suspension it will be the perfect car... FOR DRIVERS ONLY!
Also i dont believe anyone whould buy a GT2 if he wants to drive with the PSM ON.. (only for rain)

it would be nice if it does have less weight.
if the only difference is awd then that will account for some weight savings.
but it still sounds like a 2wd turbo s with less options to choose from.
there is not a significant enough increase in hp.
it would be great if they were dropping the weight to 2500 lbs. or so, but does anyone really see that?
and gm has annouced the blue devil corvette with 600hp or more?
this car doesnt sound like a competitive answer.
also psm in it's current form cannot be completely disabled.

Why an answer to the Vette? 600+ horsepower are hardly controllable on the road, especially with a front engine. It would be a cool car to have, but I'd rather have the GT2 over it.
Also, 2500 lbs is elusive. Porsche can't afford plasticky panels that give way when pressed on and also has to maintain its safety record (which is impressive). A roadcar shouldn't be too light after all.
It would however be col if they made the Carrera RS with the old GT3 engine, CF body and lightweight materials. That could be what you are looking for.
The GT2 will be the same as the last one: a RWD road missile with a race suspension and unimposing optics.

i'm not a vette guy either.
i was just hoping for a little weight reduction.
but i don't see that happening with what is being discussed.
most likely there will be a significant increase in weight.

I think it will be about as heavy as the old GT2, maybe a bit heavier. Let's face it: you can't have comfort, safety and massive overengineering at 2400 lbs. At least not for under $200.000. Then again, look at the CGT and Enzo. None of them is lighter than 3000 lbs.

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

i'd be extremely pleased if they bring the gt2 in at 3000 lbs. !
i bet it comes in closer to 3300 lbs.

Yeah, that's my feeling too. 3100 lbs would be nice, though .

Guys is it safe to assume the GT-2 and Turbo S will sport 3.8 liter engines? And if thats the case, the X50 may be an engine upgrade. Does this make sense?

Not necessarily - it's possible that it will be a 3.8L, but just as possible that they'll just turn up the boost on the 3.6L (there's lots of headroom to explore).

It's quite hard to believe a front-engined RWD car can do it on street tires.

the excelleance article says the 997tt with the powerkit that will be made available by porsche will produce 520hp!
the mighty gt2 is going to produce all of 5 to 10 hp more than the base tt with powerkit?
    that stinks!
also doesnt mention an s model tt?

The 996 GT2 produced only 6 more horsepower than the powerkit (456 vs. 462). The Mk2 cars coming later might change that. However, do you really think handling 530 horsepower in a rear-wheel drive, rear-engined vehicle is easy?

It would be easier than handling 530 hp in a Front Engine rear wheel drive car.

Certainly. However, since when is 530 horsepower not enough? With Porsche that means more than 550. Under 11 seconds from 0-200 km/h, under 30 seconds to 300 km/h and a top speed of close to 330 km/h. I'd say that's adequate .

    Re: 997 GT2 is coming...more details

For me GT2 may be the last car that i would consider to buy from Porsche. I was expecting GT3RS to be even faster but unfortunately it is not.. Also I dont understand what Porsche waits in order to give us the PDK gearbox in this price range... !!!!
Lets hope that we will see it in GT2.

I will stay with my F430 that i receive in a week and think if i am going to buy one porsche too.

i don't mean that it's not enough or would be easily handled.
i don't understand why porsche doesnt differentiate more between models.
i guess their is no s model tt coming?
if so that would mean the s model with powerlit would surely have more hp than the gt2?
was their a powerkit offered for the previous gt2?
i just don't get their marketing strategies, but as they like to point out they have been successful.

The 996TTS and 996X50 were the same in terms of maximal HP (444SAE-HP or 450-456PS). The S had PCCB's and several interior items as standard that were optional on the baseTT. Don't know if the 997TTX50/S/GT2 will have similar power increments versus the 996 series, but I'm guessing we will see the following max. power figures in SAE-HP:
    997TT: 480
    997TTX50: 520-525
    997TTS: 520-525
    997GT2: 530
Of course, the GT2 will differ not just in power, but also in its RWD setup, with less weight.

And maybe those power numbers for the X50/S are optimistic, BUT I'm still betting the S is not an "if" but a "when."

We also left out the alphabet soup of PDK/PDCS....

    Hmmm. 550HP?

    Re: 2007 gt2 blurb

The 550hp figure is pure speculation but my guess is atleast 530hp to leave som gap for the Turbo S.

But of course, as are all car mag. statements. I'm guessing no more than 525 for the TTS, so 530 is more likely than 550 for the GT2, but the powerplant can handle even more anyhow, so we'll just have to wait to see how they decide to program it.

    Re: 2007 gt2 blurb

I was at my dealers today to take some pictures of the 997TT, and talked about the GT2 a little bit. They told me that the GT2 will have roughly 530-540hp, they dont expect a higher number!
