What in the world is going on here !!!!!

Please tell me the 9k redline is limited only on their demo cars heart

Peak power is at 8250 if I remember correctly . But you can go all the way to 9 k . Where is the problem ?

Gnil - this is true that the power peak is 750 rpm before the redline, but this is typical.  Many people assume that it would be faster to shift at 8,250 rpm because of this, but this is a common misunderstanding.  If we drive around at only one engine speed (like with CVT gearbox), then yes 8,250 rpm would be the fastest place.  But we drive most of the time at changing engine speeds and we want the average engine speed to be as close to peak for as long as possible.  Shifting at 9k makes the engine speed closer to 8,250 rpm in the next higher gear when we shift.  If we shift at 8,250, then the engine speed is too low in the next higher gear for best performance...

I have always been a ' shift at red line ' anytime you can  type of guy  , as long as the engine is warm Smiley And I agree, the momentum shifting after peak power gives you, allows to fall in a better (higher/ more powerful ) reving band .

I have been driving my 964 for the last 3 days after the winter hibernation..... pretty disappointing Smiley

That s one of the reason ( whey too heavy ) and the other is the horrible / heavy steering probably due to the AWD.

I debate once again the idea of taking the car to one of the local guru and have it completely changed into a light weigh , fast reving 911. But it will probably cost a lot and take the value of the car down.

Good point is , the market has come about 10 % up for this car compared to last fall

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Platinum wheels are great. Black wheels IMHO have never been nice, hip or sporty, even worse in glossy finish. I would not buy a car with black wheels.

The engine on our CTTS was $50k to replace (after going through a puddle a little bit too deep angry, insurance paid the bill)... not sure how much a GT3 one would be.

I am not one to keep cars. My motto is "use them, lose them". I like better.kiss

BTW, according to AP the new GT3 engine should be good for 300,000 miles with an adjustments. I doubt many keep their cars that long.yes

Finally, regarding black wheels. one time they were considered hip but today considered ricer. Think about it. When you see a Porsche with black wheels what comes to mind?

I agree re black wheels.  I've had black wheels on my Lotus for almost ten years now and it is played out in my opinion.  If someone just got their first car with black wheels it might be a novelty, but now even a Prius can be optioned with them from dealer.

I do like the black wheels with red lip a bit, even though this is the most ricer option of them all.  Smiley For my own car, I'd probably go with matte silver.  Most modern.  The platinum finish is also quite nice and hides brake dust well for those with standard iron brakes.

Someone said that the car has a rev limiter at 8,500 rpm when the Sport button is off and 9,000 rpm with the Sport button on (adds Rev matching).  Not sure if this is true or not.  But having the red dotted line at 8,500 rpm simply shows a caution (like Yellow line) with hard limit at 9,000 rpm.  Seems reasonable to me...

    Smiley

But I have to see it to believe it Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

@gnil - I think something like a 964 is fun to drive if ideally a 2wd, and more importantly is in tip top condition and with low-ish mileage. Like any car age will take its toll on rubbers, suspension, etc. To have a classic which drives at the top of its game takes quite some investment in maintenance.

That's something I found out from my car. I had a top to bottom check up on the 3.6, changing the tires is first, then check and replace all the hoses and bushings as needed, even the engine mounts are getting a new ones as with the belts.

Surprisingly, the rubber seal on the sunroof is in tip top shape after so many years, it's not leaking. So are the door seals.

In a nutshell. The motor is a motor sports engine. Finally. The new intake and solid lifters will add new sounds but still GT3 like. From the smile and context it will make more of an aircooled sound due to the solid lifters and less sound absorbing materials.  If you like to be part of the car get the manual. If you just want to go fast get the PDK. The sound will be barely legal. Smile.

This motor is a going to be a gem. Feel sorry for the R buyers.

If I would make changes on it , I would get rid of the AWD if possible.  That is certainly the biggest " problem " .

as you said , old cars need constant maintainance. My car did not like sitting in through winter. My direction became so noisy.

What strikes me as the most noticable visual difference at the rear is that they've placed the wing spoiler supports much closer together.. The deck lit has the real estate to place wider for a much more aggressive look IMO.. it must be aero reasoning but it makes this model look taller and narrower..

Absolutely love it though don't get me wrong, it's a stunning machine! The above was just a quick observation.

To be fair, it is pretty difficult to get a manual option and some manual cars will be delivered pretty "late", so some customers took PDK instead. Still...PDK trumps manual in GT3 orders...no doubt about it. According to my dealer, all orders are PDK and it seems to be very similar at most German dealerships (with very few exceptions). In the US, demand for manual seems to be pretty high compared to Germany.
