Passenger dashboard...only for info? Or also with touchscreen?

thanks a lot for the info

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

IMO the only way that a secondary display would make sense if the passenger can use it as input, for example to change the navigation system destination or music. Also would be nice if the passenger can use it as a secondary display of their phone. If it is only to display car information (velocity, g-force), then it is only a useless gimmick if you ask me.

Well, the cockpit of the 992 gets a new design but not a radical one. Touch buttons...digital speedo cluster...it will happen (similar to Panamera/next Cayenne gen/Macan facelift) but I think that the display in the middle is going to stay in a way or another (unlike in the R8 for example, where there is none anymore).

I rather think that Preuninger was hinting at the "960" because a mid-engined 911 would break with tradition and it would drive customers mad if Porsche would offer two designs, a rear engines and a mid-engined car. Unless of course Preuninger referred to a mid-engined "GT" model but then, what would the "960" be good for if they do that?!

The new platform will certainly allow many variants but it is questionable if Porsche should really go this path.

Christian, do you think the 960 will share the platform with the mission e?

Also, what exactly is "a platform"? I have an image in my head of a structure to which suspension, driveline and body parts can be attached to form the car, but have no clue if that is the correct definition and how such a thing would look.

    Joost:

Christian, do you think the 960 will share the platform with the mission e?

I doubt it. The 960 will use Porsche's sportscar platform, the same one which will be used for the next gen R8, Huracan/Aventador as well.

I heard that the Mission E is a inter-brand project but of course the Mission E itself is Porsche's variant. Expect similar cars from other brands within the VW Group as well.

Also, what exactly is "a platform"? I have an image in my head of a structure to which suspension, driveline and body parts can be attached to form the car, but have no clue if that is the correct definition and how such a thing would look.

It basically saves tons of money and makes production much easier, especially for a multi-brand company like VW Group.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I seem to recall that the 911 and 718 share a platform, right from the initial boxster/ 996 days. Only differences is the engine / gearbox assembly is spun through 180 degrees to get to the Boxster. Would think then that  one could also "spin" the 911 engine / gearbox mounting -assembly t o allow for a 960, albeit wouldn't it be great with a flat-8

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Thanks for the answers guys! It is more or less what I expected, but I had never seen pictures or more explanations on these things... Nice! kiss

I have to disappoint you: While in the 996 and partially in the 997 days, the similarities (same parts) were quite big, they are not now. Actually, I remember I read somewhere that the current 991.2 and 718 share only 20% of parts. At max.

The next Porsche sportscar platform is something completely new which hasn't been used yet by Porsche. The 992 is going to be the first as far as I understood.

Hey RC. Is it me or the red center stripe/reflector/light is comming for all variants of the 992 instead of just the C4/C4S models?

You don't really want me to answer that, do you? Smiley There will still be a difference between the C2 and C4 models, surprise, surprise. That reflector/center stripe is going to be the brand mark of the newer upcoming Porsche models but in different sizes. Let Porsche surprise you.

Fugly fender flares. Let's pretend we like them and trick Porsche into keeping them. Not.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

The flares are necessary because the 992 have wider tracks than 991, the tires stick outside of the stock 991 fenders.

But the ones we see here in the spy shot can't possibly be the final look. No way. I don't mind wide tenders but...

Don't worry mate, what you're probably looking at is a platform being tested with a 991 body on it. If the width of the platform is wider, they'll just tack on some functional stuff to provide for makeshift fenders. Final design won't look anything like it.

This is actually quite true. Could be the next R8 for what I know... Smiley Smiley

No kidding though: The new Porsche sportscar platform is very flexible/modular. Everything possible, incl. mid engined design (not for the 911 though as far as I understood, even if people seem to keep this rumor floating).
