The rear seats come out easily.
The sunroof is a crash test issue for the USA market. Porsche did not do testing for non sunroof coupes for
the US. 997's have lower seat mounts than 996s so the headroom is not as big of an issue. The sunroofs weight
and slightly higher of center gravity might not be noticable with all of the VTG's torque.
The GT3 RS seats are 10K I think. Maybe less direct from
Recaro.

1. rear seats are very easy to remove, no big deal (and you have the advantage that you already have the seatbelts mounted, just in case you want to put the rear seats back)

For serious track racing, the GT3 RS is the better car.
For some track fun only, forget about a few kg less weight.
If you got the PCCB with your order, you already paid half the rent.
And you can add the new Cup tires which will be available for the Turbo from Porsche this autumn, saving you another few seconds on the track.Unless you succeed in loosing more than 60-70 kg, the weight isn't that much of an issue on the 997 Turbo, especially the Tiptronic version which is already fast as hell below 125 mph. And above this speed, weight doesn't really count anymore.

The way I looked at it was for the amount of use the back seats get they aren't needed at all. So why not take the entire assembly out. I ordered my car with all the performance related goodies and picked the featres that lower my weight...if for no other reason than to feel the road better. But alas the option is unavailable...so screw driver it is
but it isn't the most appealing asthetically.

Porsche will release a seat delete kit sooner or later, same as with the 996. Gert at Carnewal carries these kits, but they're probably not available for the 997 yet.

1. 997 with sunroof should probably give you more head room than 996 with sunroof, because the current seats are lower.
2. You'd probably also have to ignore a warning light, because disconnecting the thorax air bags will surely be indicated as a malfunction.

The dealer is able to turn of the airbag warning light, but will require you to sign a paper. Quite a few 997 owners with GT3 seats installed have had this done.
