a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

I know most of you guys are in the market for high-end sport cars,
but since cars over here are very expensive, and my budget is limited to around 33,000 USD,
i need to settle for a small sporty car..

I thought about the Seat Ibiza FR or CUPRA.
I know that the CUPRA is stronger and more expensive,
but for the extra 30bhp, which i can add later with a chip, i don't wanna pay extra 3.5K.

Can someone help me with the other differences (other than 30bhp extra for the cupra) between the FR and the CUPRA?

    Thanks!

Get the Cupra R with the 160 HP turbodiesel engine and chip it to 200 HP. That way you'll get the most bang for your buck.

    & fuel mileage

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

i personally like the ford fiesta ST and the new honda civic.
    http://www.ford.co.uk/ns7/fiesta/fie_0508_body/fie_0508_body_st/-/-/-/-

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

Im with ZZboba here. Know two guys from my trackdays who drive Fiesta and Civic Type R. Id go for the Civic. Honda makes great little cars.
High revs, aggressive sound and great! handling.
And I dont mean "great handling for a cheaper car", I mean it really handles excellently compared to most cars - including "real" sportscars.

U could also consider the Mitsu Evo 8 or Subaru Impreza WRX if that is within your budget. More specialized cars and perhaps not as much an everyday commuter as the Honda or Fiesta, but a friend of mine just got the Evo8 and he is very happy.

Let us know what you decide.

The problem with the EVO is horrendous fuel mileage. The EVO 9 my friend has gets around 30 liters per 100 km when I'm driving it and I still don't push it past 95%. From what I heard these babies can reach as high as 35 l/100 km .
For his budget, the best car IMO would be the Cupra R Ibiza with chip and the car is even lighter than the Civic.
The Cupra also has better brakes than the standard Ibiza and several other suspension bits are different. If you intend to drive the car hard, buy the Cupra. The only thing I'd change would be the brake pads. After that, you should be set for some serious ego damaging of other drivers. I know that these cars, when tuned via the OBD2 port, produced up to 220 RELIABLE horsepower (meaning that there have been guys driving around with 220 HP Ibizas and Seat Leons for several years now, with no problems). The standard 130 HP engine can be reliably tuned to about 180 HP, but I'd think that the end result of about 220 HP would be worth it for you (the car should take only about 25 second to reach 200 km/h from zero).

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

I'd get either the new Renault Clio RS, or the new Honda Civic Type R. Both have 200 hp, a nice interior, and drive much better any Polo or Ibiza.
I don't know when they'll be introduced in Israel, though.

How are Israel's roads? Rough? Smooth? Straight? etc.

How firm do you prefer the ride quality?

I suggest you and a car enthusiast friend test go together and drive the cars back-to-back on the same roads and speeds. Try rough, smooth, straight, and twisting roads. Low and high speed. Test the brakes for feel and fade, steering for feel, chassis for ride comfort and body roll, engine for smoothness. Fill up the tank before and after the test-drive to check the consumption.

Also, I suggest you read these two links:

What about a Mini Cooper S with the JCW package?

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

Renault Clio RS or Mini Cooper S with the JCW package, the two best cars in that price range right now.

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

Dont think you can get the Renault Clio Trophy out there (Which would be my number one choice!)

    http://www.channel4.com/4car/road-tests/driving-impressions-2005/R/renault/clio/182-trophy.html

so I would definatly go for the Renault Clio 182 with optional cup pack. Great handling car and great value.

    http://www.channel4.com/4car/road-tests/driving-impressions-2004/R/renault/clio182-cup/182-cup.html

Dont get one with the nasty stripes though!

Only problem is that there is a new one out soon

If you have the money get mk2 Clio v6... Truly a mental little sports car and looks great on the road! THye have stopped making them but you should be able to pick up a used for reasonable money

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

The new Clio RS is coming in June. It beats the Cooper S JCW in every regard IMHO, but for the fact that the Mini drives like a go-kart.

Since I guess this is going to be your only car, usability and comfort should be considered. I doubt you could get a better package than the RS (maybe the Peugeot 207 RC/GTi, but it's still a year away).

For the same reason, I would not get a Clio V6 either. While it's a great fun car, it's not practical at all: no luggage compartment, only 2 seats, and the interior gets very hot because of the engine. It's also tricky to drive in some circumstances IMHO.

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

I would love to get each car you suggested..
but the Cooper S costs here 55K USD. which is way higher than my budget.
The Honda doesn't do it for me.
and the only clio available here is the 172.. the newer weren't imported.
(and the price than are talking about for the new one is also higher than my budget).

The EVO and the STI are also way more expensive.. 67K-70K USD.

Cars prices here sucks.. way too expensive than in other countries..

The Ibiza Cupra is the best i can get for my money here..
it doesn't have rivals in it's price..
maybe the Polo GTI, which is a bit more expensive than the Cupra, but got the FR power..

I guess i'll get the Cupra..
i just want to know what are the differences between it and the FR..
(why i need to pay extra 3.5K?)

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

you could also go for the megane rs ,225hp and turbocharged, nice car..

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

I'm afraid the Megane is too expensive, if the new Clio already is...

The Ibiza FR comes with a K03 turbocharger, while the Cupra comes with a larger K04 turbocharger. The FR cars put out around 140-145 HP stock, while the Cupras put out anywhere between 170 and 185 HP. The Cupra can be remapped to 220 HP, which will make it a seriously quick little car, with a weight of only 1200 kg.
My suggestion is to take the Cupra, change the brake pads and remap it to 220 HP. If you still have money left after that, buy a nice set of coil-overs to improve the handling and add an exhaust for a further 10-20 HP. That is going to be one sick little Ibiza .

Re: a bit cheap but.. i could use your help :)

just came back from the dealership..
waiting for dad to come back from europe, and will go on sunday to order

    One Black CUPRA Please;)

    THANKS GUYS!

    Crash, i think that's what i'll do..
only i will wait a bit 'till i know the car a little better,
before i make it an earth2earth missile..

    That's great!
I suggest you run in the car for about 10.000 kilometres, before remapping it (the power will be plenty for you until then), but the brake pads you can install earlier (if you drive the car hard, no normal car will hold up in the brake department, unless you start looking at Porsches and such).
