    Poor Corvette Z06 test result

The recent issue of "Powercar" (German magazine) includes a comparison of the Gallardo SE and the Z06.

Both cars produced rather poor acceleration figures (0-200 13s for the Z06 and 13.4s for the 520hp Gallardo).

Also, the Z06 was nearly 1s slower on the Sachsenring (the race track they used for their test). Gallardo time was 1:39,63, Z06 time was 1:40,35.

Apparently, the Gallardo has much better brakes than the Z06 (around 2m shorter stooping distance for 100-0). The Gallardo was equipped with Pirelli PZero Corsa tires, i.e. no semi slicks etc.

Seems that the performance of the Z06 depends on the race track...

P-Zero Corsas are semi-slick tyres. They don't help with acceleration, though.

Re: Poor Corvette Z06 test result

Thanks for the update. I think alot has to do with the driver as well.

Yes, and that means ALOT with respect to braking from 100kph. Braking from such a slow speed has everything to do with traction and very little to do with brakes. The only true test of brakes comes at a racetrack with repeated laps. You cannot make conclusions about brakes with 100-0kph...

I agree, braking in a test such as this, is more a function of tires. If the Corsa tirs are R compounds, that is a huge advantage...easily adds 3 seconds at most tracks. It's a real shame they put run-flats on the Z06, but they must be sold to the mass public and without a spare, some executive (not engineer) called the shot on that one. I'd love to see some times on a real R compound. Michelin is clearly the better tire, as proven by the racing program, I wish GM would ditch their partnership with Goodyear for the Corvette, but those ties go way back and again are more executive then engineer.

Chevy, NASCAR,Goodyear race tires - all tied together promotionally. Not surprised GM execs ( not engineers )freeze out other tire makers for the Chevy Corvette . That's also why Michelin won't make an aftermarket non run flat PS2 for the Corvette Z06 size, even though there would be a giant market for it : business tit for tat.

I agree. Michelin makes a pilot sport runflat for the Viper, which I have driven, and I prefer them to the Goodyear supercar EMT's. I don't understand why Michelin has not, as of yet, made this tire for the 06 Z.

Michelin guy in South Carolina says they have tried to convince GM to bid alternative OEM tire makes for the Z06, as all the other mass produced sports cars have several suppliers . GM says take a hike. Too bad, spec OEM tire develop competition is a good thing for the consumer.
Porsche has Dunlops on some models ( owned by Goodyear and used to brand their foreign car OEM tire business, as the GY name would hurt that biz in the US ).

I am still curious as to why Michelin does not make them for the C6 aftermarket. They would probably sell quite a bunch.
