    Oil change and alignment check after break in ?

    My local Porsche-Zentrum (dealership) recommended an oil change and alignment check after 3,000 km (costs: 420 Euro), whereas the guy at the factory's pick up centre in Stuttgart advised me that there is no need for it - I just should follow the instructions of the manual/service-booklet (first oil change and inspection after either 30,000 km or 2 years).

    Is the dealer trying to generate some extra revenue or does their recommendation make any sense

    Any comments from the "tech-pros" are appreciated

    I didn't do it to my C2S but I do get them to have a look underneath from time to time just to be sure everything is fine especially before I come over to the autobahn

    Alignment? Shouldn't need doing unless you hit
    something/pothole hard I'd say. But keep an eye on your tyres and if they start to wear unevenly get it checked.

    Oil-Well there's an arguement that says you shoild do it often for best engine life but Porsche have increased the interval on the 987 and 997 so i'm not bothering to change mine until it's due. You can't even check the dipstick so Porsche must be prety confident.

    I'm not a tech pro so I apologise in advance! But I asked the same questions when I bought mine because the interval seemed long.

    This old chestnut turns up frequently.
    Depends if you want fast bedding in and reduced engine life, or, with the oil change, slow bedding in and maximum engine life.
    3000km seems eminently sensible to me. Do it, I'm going to.

    Porsche- Jeck,

    For the first oil change, I plan on splitting the difference between the manual and what your dealer recommends(1 yr or 10,000 mi, whichever comes first). Wow, 420 Euro sounds pretty steep! Regarding alignment, I agree, I would skip it for now and keep a close look at your tire wear( unless you're having problems). And don't race so many 911's.

    The alignment suggestion should be a clue that he's trying to rip you off.
