USA 997 Turbo Delivery - Changed?

According to the official press release, the 997 Turbo is supposed to be delivered to customers in the USA starting with July 8th.

Today I had a little chitchat with a person who read a memo last week regarding the US release. Apparently, it has been changed, Alan already mentioned it.
New release date: June 24th 2006. It seems that ALL 997 Turbo will go to customers worldwide on the same day.
With one possible exception maybe: Switzerland. I heard something about a slightly earlier introduction but only a few days or up to a week. Don't know if this is true though.

This is NOT official information, the official release date seems still to be July 8th (I just mention it in case somebody doesn't get the car on June 24th and wants to rip my head off... ).

Re: USA 997 Turbo Delivery - Changed?

I was wondering if that were the case. I was just advise by my porsche rep that my build date is for June...instead of July. I wonder if they are reaching thier sales targets for the model.

Re: USA 997 Turbo Delivery - Changed?

Why don't they let the customers take delivery when the car arrives at the Dealership. Its Ridiculous to make the Customer wait.

The product Information guide also says June 24th. Yee Ha

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

i believe there is a US law that states cars of the next model year cannot be released until certain time of the year has elasped.

but thats just an unrelated factoid, that info popped up on the grid when mercedes was releasing cars of the next MY VERY early.

    anyways...

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

I spoke with a porsche salesman in Holland. He said official introduction for customers in Holland will also be June 24th.

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

product info guide states worldwide intro to be 24th june......and they still dont have the US configurator up.....somebody is not doing his job right !

Nobody makes the customer wait. The official release date has been set, customers know that. And this is the day they get their cars. The only reason the cars arrive somehow earlier at the dealers is the fact, that Porsche wants to make sure that the launch cars don't arrive too late.

And it also has to do with "fairness": some dealerships may get their cars a few days earlier than others. How would Porsche justify to customers that they get their cars later than others? This only happens with launch cars, again: LAUNCH cars. If a dealership gets a car earlier during a "normal" production year, of course the customer gets it earlier too.
And last but not least it may have to do with certification processes. Maybe a car is certified for street usage only starting with a certain date on certain markets, I don't know how this works exactly. The factory cars don't need this certification, they have a different status and usually are allowed to drive around even without general certification.

    I believe it is Jan 1. So, a manufacturer can't release a MY08 car until Jan 1, 2007.

Not quite true... ...have you read about the travel event to Austria end of May/early June?

We don't have an official confirmation for the earlier Swiss release date, maybe our swiss Users could shed some light into it?!

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

Yes RC, i have two launch cars coming to me in the US. One is coming out of FL where i live, and the other is coming out of south carolina. One is my car, and the other is a flip, as the one I had ordered before the carolina car, was limited on options, as it was a dealer specd launch car. On both of the cars, the production status says they were in the body shop as of last thursday. My dealer refered to it as "point 8" (which is the body shop in the assembly line) I don't know if he made this "point" up, but I have been told these cars will be available for delivery to me on June 24. And a side note, I will not be hiking the price up as you've seen people do on ebay and such, but I will make a small profit (no more than 2k USD) on the car that i couldn't get all the options i wanted. I will be giving first cracks at it to people on rennteam based in the continental US. Two months guys.... its going to feel like an eternity.

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

And i'm also guessing that they don't have the US configurator up, so people just don't go crazy here in the US trying to get one, as your average sports car guy, doesn't know the amount of hype surrounding the new tt, and when the cars are actually coming. Champion Motors (2005 le mans winner, one of the worlds largest volume P dealers, and right down the street from me) has over 150 orders for 997tt already!!! Most of these orders, mabey 50%, have been on paper for the past year already. The demand is definetly there, so mabey P doesn't want the US configurator up just yet.

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

Any word on how well the 997TT sales are going? I am sure there will be an initial rush for the car but what about six months to a year from now?

As far as I know, my dealer is sold out for 2006. Same with other Porsche dealers in Germany. Don't know about other countries but I suspect that more orders will come in as soon as the first reviews are published in car magazines.
My dealer also sold his one and only GT3 RS for this year, his GT3 is also gone. I'd say that if the 997 Turbo doesn't disappoint in the first reviews, orders will increase. Some people seem to wait for the reviews since some seem to be sceptical about the 480 HP power figure (how could a 480 HP car keep up with the competition with 490, 500, 517, 520 HP and more?!).

Or to use the words of "somebody" I talked to recently: "the 997 Turbo sells itself, no need for any special marketing effort." Funny.

I will use any method, legal or illegal, to get the date and report it back to HQ

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

Even I am sceptical of the 480 hp figure, but I've always trusted porsche to put the best product they possibly can on the market. (excluding famous P sales strategy - leaving room for future models) Couple that with pasm, vtg, and the way the cars "networked" its systems...I find it hard to believe anyone will be truly "disappointed". All we can do is wait and see. Also, whos to say these cars aren't going to be performance modifiable. I know we have a thread dedicated to that topic, but I get the sneaking sensation after the dust has settled, there will be a tuner with products / power kits allowing us to modify these cars to our hearts content.

Re: We need to have a world-wide party

It is not a question IF Tuners will offer a power kit, it is a question of WHEN and HOW reliable it will be.
I would really urge everybody to wait, this is a completely new technology for a gasoline operated engine and I've also been told that the VTG chargers are very "sensitive" to bad software mapping, especially since they are controlled electronically.
