Re: 1st time pulled over...
A friend of mine got pull over for his Infiniti M45 with no plates. He is making a bracket to hold the plate on the front tow hook. He ordered the bolt (24mm) from New York, had a smaller bolt hole drilled into the larger bolt for the bracket. His method would also work on the 997. He is suppose to have the ticket signed off by the CHP this week. I will let you know if he does not pass the inspection.

As far as the California DMV is concerned, do they even bother to check? I heard from a fellow 997 owner that you just pay the fine. They don't even check. He told me that getting this ticket once every 1 or 2 years is worth not having to drill into his Porsche.

Onto i280 I figured I'm headed home so I was cruising around 80-88 mph and then I come up to black on black 996 turbo with black rims... I got off with a verbal warning and a fix it ticket for the front plates... I don't know which is worse getting the speeding ticket or having to put plugs on my front end... nonetheless thanks Mr. Officer you're a good guy not for giving me a warning but for understanding that the bumper holes would hurt more...

My sense is that CHP on 280 is very reasonable re: enforcing speeds for safety (and have never heard of CHP even bothering w/silly front plates on new P/F/MB; more incentive to get new cars every 6-12 mos...so just have paper dealer tag on windshield for bulk of ownership of car) Don't know of an urban fwy anywhere in world (incl Munich), slicing through the heart of an economically relevant region that has the avg speeds that 280 (btwn 380 and Woodside/Los Altos Hills) consistently has in rush hr/wkends/rainy days...and w/minimal accids....and to top it off, 280's prob the most scenic urban fwy in world as well.....just compare the SF-Woodside fwy speed/scenery vs comparable NYC-Greenwich/Chic-Lake Forest, etc (and adjust for the annoying snow, snow tires and winter weather traffic slowdowns of NYC/Munich/Chic, etc for 3-4 mos/yr) and one truly appreciates how amazingly efficient and pleasurable the traffic flows are on SF Peninsula.....in fact, even if I-5 btwn SF and LA were derestricted, I'd much prefer to briskly run my toys along 280, before heading into the Woodside mtns for some more interesting twisties....all within 45 mins of SF....

They do check in CA. Wife juts got a fix it ticket with her MBZ and we had to take the car in to police station and show them the fix plus a $10 fine. The officer did not come out to see the car. He asked if we have the plate on.

Had a similar experience on 101 myself 6 months ago whilst living in SF. Double sides tape (thick stuff), stick the pla on via the plastic bracket that came with the car. I was surprised how solid the plate was attached when in place actually. Dont go to the police dept - they will check - instead I went to the overworked DMV office mid afternoon. Kind lady at the front desk said had the fix-it been sorted, I said yes, she said wheres the car, I said right outside. She signed the ticket without further question or looking at the car. Done.
Funny that the plate fell off when I got home and was parked up in my garage
Kept the taped front plate bracket and plate in the trunk just in case one of our finest stopped me again.
Here in NC, no need for a front plate btw.

I just got pulled over outside a school. The limit is 20mph and when I spotted the policeman, I double checked my speed and it was just short of 20mph! I was in my Seat Altea, not the Porsche and the guy stopped me and asked me the limit.
I said to this smug guy that the limit was 20mph. He asked me what speed I was doing and I said 20mph. He said "I would be to differ" and went on to tell me that my suspension movement over a speedbump told him that I was doing over 20mph.
Rather than argue the point I just said "sorry about that you must be right". What a muppet. I was probably doing 15mph over the speedbump and this guy thinks I'm doing 30mph! Maybe his invisible radar detector wasn't working!
