Two possibilities: for sending telemetry data during driving (less likely at this stage of development) or just a plain and simple antenna for using the ham radio inside the car to communicate with the other cars. Now somebody would ask: why not attaching this magnetic antenna to the roof? RC, imo...i think you can't go wrong with black. Its a classic color, with a long life, (as you said your keeping yours for 5yrs) Friends of mine, as well as myself, have always wanted that LOUD color, and then you go ahead and get it. Its great for the first few months, and you love just how loud, or how well it complements the specific car. But alas, after a while, the color starts to wear on your eyes, and you wondered why ever in the first place you choose something so, well...red. Or yellow for example. On one of my first carreras, I got it in speed yellow, and for me, when i took delivery, I was just ecstatic. 
But down the road, it really started to get to me. It just had too much attention, and I really "grew-out" off the color. When i got rid of it and bought my black/black 996tt, I just couldn't of been happier, and everytime i look at it, I just fall in love with it again and again. I think the only other color id get would be cobablt blue, but in my personal opinon, over the whole life of the car (5 yrs?) you won't be happier with anything other than black. 
P.S. Your "first instinct" was also to order black wasn't it? I think you really have to trust your gut, and go with what you set out to get.
Regardless - this car will look good in pink even, soooo theres really no way to lose here.

Funny how things work, I have the exact opposite opinion. Black and silver are colors I would never got for a car. I understand people like RC trying to have a stealth car, but this is not the case of most people. Porsche are fun cars, enjoyable, why get such boring colors. In Geneva, there was a silver turbo and a white GT3. All eyes were on the GT3 (I'll admit the GT3 looks better anyway).

Personally is the colour I would never dress an exotic car in, the colour is so 1998. If I was going to by an 997TT black would be my choice. The colour is classy and makes the car look aggressive.
For you who think black is a boring I can say that is barely nothing that beats a brand new black car. Drive with it anywhere and people are bound to turn their heads.

agreed luwalira, then again, its a reflection of your interests or your taste. black is just my opinion, but were not getting cars to turn heads, were getting cars because we like they way they drive, and the way they look. (at least i hope) What i'm trying to say is, if you want a black one, then by all means get one. A red one? then of course get it. But i personally hate people getting cars to make the guy next to you at the stop light drool. Get a car YOU enjoy, get a car you can appreciate, get a car you love driving. Driving is a necessity, (unless you have a horse, run really fast, or live next to the market) Driving can also be such a pleasure (duh)
