    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

As you have noticed in the past, the 991.1 GT3 is already too fast a car to fully use on the streets, so for someone who prefers manual shifting, I don't think the trade-off in performance is a huge concern.  For street driving.  That said, I would still go PDK on this car because it suits the engine so well and because on a car with this kind of speed, I want to be fully focused on the other inputs.  On my GT4, I would not get PDK even if offered because the acceleration is not explosive enough.  I am on my dealer's list for the next GT4 and will consider PDK for that car.

Will be interesting to see if people put their money where their mouth is re manual.  U.S. manual sales should be much higher than ROW.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Are these wheels available in Germany yet?

They are not on the German configurator as of yet but are on the GB configurator

My dealer said that all new GT3 pre-orders he has so far are all...PDK. Of course this isn't really saying much but still...

In my opinion, it is a shame to order such an engineering-optimized car with manual, in a sense it defeats its purpose.  It is like pairing the courses of a menu at a Michelin-starred restaurant with cheap wine.

    When Ferrari went to all paddle shifter, they were asked why they did not offer MT. The answer;

The car was designed for performance and the F1 transmission is designed to enhance that performance. MT does not enhance performance.

Seriously if someone feels strongly that MT is more fun to drive, they should considered a Miata or other cheaper cars which offer MT. It make no sense to handicap the GT3 with MT.

We're fairly close to a time where a computer could assume other driving responsibilities like steering, braking, and controlling throttle in a way that enhances performance beyond a human driver.  Progress?

Gotta draw the line somewhere and not everyone's line is the same...

He just ordered his NZ rig:

Does anyone have pix of blue graphite???  Thank you

Congrats!  Lots of photos on google:

Some of these are not GB, but most are.  There's a whole thread on Rennlist too.  I saw it yesterday- love it in some light, but sometimes looks like primer or battleship gray.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

every time when manual and PDK appears on the same sentence, the discussion will go 10+ pages long...

if it is not for manual transmission, I will not even consider buying this car at all.

anyone here that think they can extract 100% of performance out of this GT3 is just kidding himself big time, not on the road, track or anywhere.

the performance different of PDK-S vs manual in this car for me is all academic, it means nothing.

for easy of use and practicality of PDK, that's also irrelevant to me.  I never felt driving manual is harder than PDK at all.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

To each his own, you can take the pleasure in executing a heel/toe downshift or listening to a automated gearbox do it fo you at light speed and in a perfect way, EVERY single time. I understand that. But that is not how I enjoy my car. I only wish I had an automatic on my 911 in heavy traffic...but then when this happens I also wish I had taken my daily driver.

I don't think it is about technological advance or not. I would not give ABS or PSM...But manual is part of the driving experience, it is part of the fun, more involvement required.

I think Grant put this well, you could automate the driving entirely...Self driving GT3, probably faster than any human soon...any fun in that? indecision

The next thing we'd want in a GT3 is a Mercedes S-Class Airmatic + Magic Body Control Suspension for the niche market and ear plugs, if it's too costly for Porsche to add some extra sound deadening materials to satisfy few of the PDK owners

PTS deliveries should start in EU from January 2018 earliest.

Well if they want to make that "Touring" or CS version, a Touring pack in the GT3 makes no sense

Germany is definitely a market where I expected big volume advantage for PDK.

RC, as an Autobahn guy you should prefer Manual - it has a higher top speed Smiley

Autobahn guy? Smiley Only 5-10% of my driving happens on the Autobahn and I'm not really a fan because it is boring as hell. I love the DCT in my R8, I only shift manually (actually the first sportscar I really shift manually only since my last manual and I had five cars with PDK) and I do not miss the clutch at all. Nostalgia isn't my thing, sorry.

The 911 is basically the Volkswagen of sportscars here in Germany. I see a couple of 911 every day and mostly 991 and 997/996. Older 911 (993, 964, etc.) I usually see on weekends and mostly in spring/summer.

Yes, not trying to convince anyone to drive a manual, just for Porsche to continue selling them :-)

Not true. MT devotees claim MT is more fun to drive. Personally I find such statements absurd. In traffic, MT is painful. On a performance track MT is slow. On public roads, MT is clumsy and disruptive. Nevertheless, some want a MT. My advice, you can have the same if not better experience in a much cheaper car. Smiley
