    multi-function steering wheel

    Does anyone know if its possible to change out the stock steering wheel in an '05 997 S to a multifunction? If so, is it plug and play or more extensive. Thanks

    I've heard that every car has a unique wiring harness but I also have heard that others have done the wheel switch to gain the controls. It won't quite be 'plug and play' but once they plug it in they can they program it at the service facility for the PCM to take the commands.

    I changed my steering wheel, it only takes about 10 minutes to do it; very easy. Mutifunction can fitted only on tiptronic cars...

    Isn't the shape of the airbag an issue? I thought one could change the wheel in a base Carrera without too much effort, but doing so in an S would require much more work.

    But you did order your 911 with the MF wheel from the factory, didn't you? Porschesky is asking about a retrofit.
    From what GG Hayek said, it sounds like the MF wheel needs some wiring to be installed, which is already there on Tiptronic cars (because of the shifters), but not on manuals.

    I just called my OPC just to make sure... Apparently the MF comes on any car (manual or tiptronic) but with the regular steering wheel (the triangle one) not the sport rounded steering wheel

    I'm confused. So is it possible to buy a Multifunction and retrofit with a non-multifunction that came with the car?

    If you have a base Carrera (or a Boxster for that matter), yes, because it is the same steering wheel (except for the buttons).
    If you have a Carrera S, it won't work because the wheel is different.
