    You're welcomed to join us.

BTW: we can't set a final date before I have my car but I'd say sometime around mid of July. Location: Stuttgart area (+60 km).
I'm afraid this "event" is ONLY for a few Rennteam OWNERS of cars, we can't accept any "guests" or people with other cars which aren't "relevant" to our this comparison, sorry.

Why I mention this: I received two PM from users if they could join us, driving in one of the cars as a co-passenger. Another user send me a PM requesting joining us in his tuned Audi. I'm sorry guys but we have to keep this event SAFE, not only from a driving point of view but also from a security point of view since we are a bunch of people driving some very expensive cars.

The date and the location will NOT be published on Rennteam until this is over. So don't waste your time by hoping you could just come and stay out of sight. But we will post pictures and hopefully a short video.

if my GT3 has been delivered (and had the necessary drive in period) and assuming it is relevant for the test i would consider joining you.

    let me know

Make sure you guys have a camera in each and every car. A nice several-minute movie would be best.

Re: 997 Turbo - Aftermarket TUNING and some thoughts

Seems that we finally get our Rennteam Meeting...

I get my car on June 26th, if I'm lucky on June 24th.
I NEED to put at least 2500 km on the car before I can seriously think of doing a comparison And even after 2500 km, the car is not fully run in, so it may be slowlier. But of course I can't wait until I have 10000 km on the speedo.

I'd say that mid of July should work out. Unfortunately I have a business trip end of July, so if we can't do it mid of July, we need to do it in August. Of course we have to find a date which suits us all best. I'm not far away from Stuttgart, so I'm kind of "flexible" with my schedule.
Somebody suggested today to rent the Hockenheim Ring for a few hours for such an event but I think it really isn't necessary and it would cost too much. We're looking into all possibilities without the need to spend money (of course each and everybody has to pay himself for the Pizza ).

...do you guys really think that I'm that stupid to get a 997 Turbo with Tiptronic without a reason?!

Hehe, pardon my French... but that sounds like a pretty stupid reason... you are ordering your 997 Turbo with Tiptronic because it is less than 12s to 200km/h?

This is one of around three or four reasons.
I don't plan to professionally track race this car (there are better cars for that, the 997 GT3 RS for example) and there is almost no situation in which the manual would be faster, even with LSD. Just try to imagine a perfect interaction of all electronic systems. All you need is a sensitive throttle foot and some courage (a tiny bit of experience could hurt either... ).

But of course you don't have to believe me... It doesn't sound logical that an electronic system can outsmart a good driver, right?! This is why no electronics at all are involved in the formula one and this is why electronic traction control systems are legal in the Formula one. Because they can't be better than the driver, right?!

Re: 997 Turbo - Aftermarket TUNING and some thoughts

the electronic controls are only as good as the software thats in them and the connectors that connect them.

As nice as it all seems, most of the latest nanny software is over complicated, over priced and really doesnt get you much for the money in the long run.

Is it ideal? well of course if you are feature matching.

Day to day use? Not really.

Re: 997 Turbo - Aftermarket TUNING and some thoughts

Well, electronic system or not, I don't have a preference. Most electronic controlled systems far exceed human controlled systems, which is of course the motivation for introducing electronic systems. Manual versus Tiptronic is another story, emotional of its nature and undermined by mistrust for automated systems (and for the engineers who designed them). This was not my point, I just found your reason for Tiptronic interesting, straight line 0-200km/h is faster.

However, since we now touched on it, no matter how good the electronic system is it will always lack one thing - the degree of freedom. The 997 Turbo Tiptronic will do 0-200km/h in Xs no matter what. There is only one way to press the throttle and that is pedal to the metal. The 997 Turbo Manual has a degree of freedom which I think will matter - by releasing the clutch at max torque, I am sure you will reach much better times than the "official" ones (like we experienced with the independent 997 S acceleration tests).

    I guess time will tell.

Would like to place a wager?

It might be possible to abuse the Tip as well!

Re: 997 Turbo - Aftermarket TUNING and some thoughts

    Look at F1:

    - turbo: banned because too fast
    - active suspension: banned because too fast
    - variable down force: banned because too fast

technology will make cars go faster, although you will loose some control of the driving...

No problem, just give me your new 997TT Tip and will do 10,000km in less than 4 weeks

HHR would also imply loss of insurance cover... No good idea for all these nice cars
