18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

Would you please give me some feedback on the ride of 18s vs. 19s on a regular Carrera 997 without PASM?

I've heard that 18s give a more comfortable ride and have better road "feel." Anybody drive on both 18s and 19s and can compare the rides?

    Thanks.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

19's are rougher with more road noise but they look much better than the 18 IMHO.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

I agree that the 19s look better, although the Carrera Classic wheel without the big red brakes on the S model can looks a little gapping on the Carrera, especially the back wheels.

I wonder if ride comfort, quiet, and maybe better feel of the 18s are worth sacrificing the good looks of the 19s.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

    over or @ 50, get the 18s.

    under 50, get the 19s.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

Chipper,? I have the base 997 w/o PASM on 19" Carrera S alloys. I think they look great and the ride is fine. HOWEVER, I tried the same car with 18" and the ride and noise were much better. But, IMO the 19's look much much better!

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

Haven't tried the 18s yet, but have heard, as you say, that they are quieter and smoother.

How about handling and feel of the road? How would you compare the 18s to the 19s?

you got it wrong - over 50 (which I am) get the 19's because my hearing is not nearly what it used to be so even the 19's are quiet!! I've got more padding than I used to have therefore the ride is always good!!

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

When you're getting a 911 it is in the 1st place for its sporty look! If you're looking for comfort then get a Mercedes. Don't do "Z" mistake, you'll regret it. 19 all the way...

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

Anybody drive a Carrera 997 with 18s? How's your ride? Your handling and feel of the road?

I'm just kidding around lol and I'm sure you are too, meant no offense.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

Go with the 19'' looks better and you can feel the road a lot more...

    Just having fun!!!!!!!

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

I opted for the 19's with Carrera Classics. Just my opinion, but I think they look better. The 18's do have a smoother ride, but like some of the others, I'm over 50, 60% hearing loss in my left ear, a little extra padding, but I'm on this side of the sod and enjoying life.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

I believe noted Belgian journalist Paul Frere prefers 18" and no PASM, FWIW.
The 19" have the most grip, but there's close to 0 sidewall compliance. If you want the ultimate in grip, or like the looks, go 19", otherwise do the 18s.

Re: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997 without PASM

I wouldn't call Paul Frère a mere "journalist". As one of the last "gentlemen drivers", he raced in F1 and prototypes in the fifties. He won Le Mans in 1960.
He's a friend of the Porsche family and many Porsche executives. He's arguably the ultimate authority on all things Porsche.

When Paul Frère says he prefers 18"/no PASM, we should definitely listen.
