Ride handling & comfort: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997

Would appreciate some feedback from owners of regular Carrera 997s on ride comfort and handling of 18s vs. 19s without PASM.

My own experience is that the 19s without PASM ride well on smooth roads, but hard on rough, potholed roads. I have heard that the 18s ride softer and actually "feel" better on the road, but do not have actual experience.

    Thanks.

Re: Ride handling & comfort: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997

I got 19s on my 997 and it rides fine. Of course, it will ride a little rough on rough and potholed roads, but you have to understand you are driving a sport car. It should ride a little rougher.

Re: Ride handling & comfort: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997

18" are better for everyday use especially on non-smooth roads.

My car has the standard suspension with the standard 18" rims and when I drove a C2S with PASM and 19" rims through the same location (some bad roads that is) I really felt the difference: the 18" set-up is better for such bad conditions.

So if your roads are decent or good you may go with the PASM, but for bad roads stay with the 18" std. susp setup.

The looks alone make the 19's worth while

Re: Ride handling & comfort: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997

There's a difference and 18s are probably worth it for Northern roads where there's "frost heave," or whatever causes originally-flat to turn onto new-wavy. (hehehe).

With all due respect, my good man. Doncha think we're being turned into fashiom monkeys? Geez, I look at 17s now and I'm a bit grossed out. WTF? Those 17s I had on my BMW 330i looked pretty nice when I first got it five ago (now traded for M3 with 18s). Those auto mfgrs are making us hate and abandon our cars like last years fashion. jerks!

Re: Ride handling & comfort: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997

So do you have 18s? Have you tried the 19s without PASM? What are the differences?

Re: Ride handling & comfort: 18s vs. 19s on Carrera 997

Dude - stay off the Road to Hana on nineteens. <g>

In Excellence Mag (last month?) Walter Rohrl stated that the 18" choice is the wheel/tire of choice for the "sensitive shoe"... and I think that he would know.

That being said - I have Sport Design 19" on my C4S with Michelin PS2s. I'm not a sensitive shoe, I guess - but it rides really well on decent road surfaces.

Well the 19" rides very nice to me. It's a sports car so what if it's a little rough. It looks gr8 and rides nicely. Bottom line the beauty is in the eye of beholder So if 18" floats your boat go for it
