Theese tires don't look too different from standard tires. Hope that translates into a reasonable performance in the wet...

From what I understand the PSC tyres are pretty bad in the wet, although things might get easier with the advanced AWD.

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport tyres

those are not the cup tyres. cup tyres have semi-slick grooves on the outside.

You're right. I knew they looked odd for Cup tyres...

They are a new modification of the Cup tires to make them a bit more friendly on the street.

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport tyres

It doesn't look that different from the standard "Cup" tire.

    Really? That's great!

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport tyres

I almost succeeded to get the Michelin Cup optional tire for my 997 Turbo but somehow the person I talked to backed off and told me he can't add it to my order since it is a launch car (don't have a clue why ).
There is no official possibility (yet) to get the Cup tire for the 997 Turbo but Porsche will definetely offer it as an option, don't worry. It performs extremely well on dry pavement, Nordschleife track time is improved by 7(!) seconds. On wet pavement, it still performs well but my source recommends to leave PSM on and Sport Chrono turned off when using the Cup tire in the wet, just as a precaution. Of course this is only valid for us "normal" drivers, real pros can do whatever they want.

I'm still not sure if I want it because I actually loved the 996 Turbo performance in the wet and I'm afraid that the Cup tire would ruin it. But since I have to wait until my first batch of (standard) tires wears off first, I have time to take a final decision. Don't know about the cost but I heard that as a factory order option, the Cup tires will cost slightly under 1000 Euro. I hope this info is right, can't believe Porsche actually sells such a thing that "cheap".

RC - Is the 1,000 Euros the cost of the option (instead of the standard PS2) or as a pure "parts" order?

If it's the option price, then it's pretty expensive, as the PS2's are not cheap. If it's the price of 4 new tires, then it is pretty reasonable. 15" Cups for my 73 911 were about $800, but those are alot cheaper than 19's...

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport tyres

Option price "only". I actually hope it is lower, I agree that it should me more somewhere in the 500 Euro range or maybe even free of cost (free choice of tires).

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport tyres

Are theese the same tires that 997GT3 uses and how do they compare to Pirelli P Zero Corsa assimetrico/direzionale?
