You are SO RIGHT and that's why I'm heading back within 60 days to Switzerland for another new Porsche 911S break-in after nearly 30 years! Julier Pass is quite nice,--see pics from 1977! Dan

    Savognin,--on the way to Julier.

Does anyone have suggestions in Georgia? I would like to drive out of Florida and experience some nice scenery in the cab with some changes in elevation.

from Athens take 441N to Clayton; 76 W to Blairsville; 19/129 S to Gainesville; back to Athens. got NAVI?

    let me know when!

Re: Roads to put a smile on you face

    Totally agree w/ "trip"

    I280, especially when passing Woodside

(but police patrolling can always be around, man...)

Re: Roads to put a smile on you face

Thanks GA997S I did order navi. I will probably pit stop in Gainesville for a quick wash to get the bugs off, cruse around and then go to GA the following day. On the way back I will probably take the long way home and stop by Tampa, there is a great suspension bridge I would love to go on in the cab. It will probably be a Friday through Sunday trip and would be in GA on Saturday. I will let you know when the cab arrives and see if we meet up for lunch if you like If there are any other Rennteamers out there that would like to meet up let me know

When I'm in Chicago it's usually for a specific in and out, so in re sports car roads, I don't know. It's so built-up around Chicago, traffic is a huge issue, even if the roads are good. One backmarker will turn the best road into snoozeville.

There are a lot of Chicago people who weekend or have a second home in Galena, so maybe you'll make it out this way sometime. If you get out this way, PM me and I can give you more specifics, but Chicagoland, I can't be of more help, I'm afraid.

Wow dan! you took some stunning photos. I love the P-car in brown? Classic just beyond words. Incredible to see your photos of years gone by. Those were surely taken before my time. If you havent been back you'll be flabbergasted at how much has changed around the passes etc. gas stations you know... Enjoy yourself! I go back thi summer myself. Definately be looking at a trip to St. Moritz from Zurich. Unfortunately i won't be in a p-car But, maybe ill steal one

But please not a seal gray one with xrr, OK?

Re: Roads to put a smile on you face

Cool car Dan. I must admit I have been scanning Classic and Sports Car for a few months now and wondering whether to get a 70's 911s, I just love the look of them and the relative purity. I couldn't do an RS without selling my C2S but a 1972 911S 2.4 would be cool. In brown. Or green. Or orange

I've driven the road in your photos and loved it. Other places apart from the Alps, generally where I had a good time, were the western Pyrenees, from Santander south on the dual carriageway which is fast (bumpy) and bendy and a real test of you and the car, and especially the hills in Serra da Estrela in Portugal near the Spanish border.

The UK? Difficult with cameras but A153 Louth Horncastle through to Grantham isn't bad (mind the Plod)if it's clear-be careful near Cadwell Park if it's a race day as bikes tend to fly around here and Mr Plod is always looking to pull someone). Also support JJBLade's routes-great-but mind out for us guys on the bikes.

Re: Roads to put a smile on you face

The 1970s Porsche are beautifully basic,--and quite removed from the ones of today. Can't wait to see Swtizerland today, after so many years away.

Rhino...before you get to Gainsville, you should get off in Ocala and head east on 27 through the horse country - also a nice ride...and then maybe you could hook up with 69bossnine and see his toy collection.

Re: Roads to put a smile on you face

Thanks for the heads up FSU-997S, and thanks again for your help with the 997TT I'm next at bat. Can't wait to configure it!

Re: Roads to put a smile on you face

Tried the "Burford Blast" in the UK Cotswolds from Cirencester a coupla weeks ago. Very pretty and in a 997S very fast (but nowhere near the limit of the car's traction). First 2/3 very quiet then some traffic, so I killed my speed to the published limit or lower.

I was giving a colleague a lift home from a meeting in Wales and his face was a different colour at the end... He just couldn't believe the power of the brakes and the classic 911 squat when you push round the corners. Good fun.

    >> From http://www.pistonheads.com/reviews/reviews.asp?c=19&id=128&r=330
"Stanway on B4077. Steep, winding section up Cotswold escarpment. Series of long straights and twisty bits to Stow-on-the-Wold. A429 through village then left onto A424 to Burford. More of the same, but wider, more sweeping, faster road. End at Burford with A40 access to Oxford. This is a good way to get from Oxford (M40/London) into Worcestershire/Gloucestershire area or vice versa. Also a good way to see some beautiful countryside and villages. Burford has a couple good restaurants, tea shops, who knows? Maybe even pies... "
