Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

My car has now done 14k miles and apart from the odd rattle is running very well. My question is, when should I expect the service indicator to flash up?

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

I have already sold my 997, but from what I recall there is no service indicator but the recommended interval was two years or 18,000 miles..one of the other guys on here should know for sure.

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

i went for a mandatoey check at 600 miles, they topped up the oil and fixed an annoying rear window rattle...

next mandatory check at 3000 miles...

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

Thanks for replies - has anyone else reached the two years or 18k miles? Should I just be waiting another 4k miles then?

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

In the US the service intervals are 2 years or 20K miles. I have spoken with a technician who, personally, won't do more than 7K to 8k miles without changing the oil. He told me that the cars are capable of running well for the first few years with the infrequent services, but stressed that if the cars are to be kept for any length of time beyond the original warranty, changing oil more frequently is the least expensive maintenance that can be performed to ensure the life of the engine.

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

I had the first service done. It is the 20K mile service. A lot of it is just checking around for loose ends, leaks, wear and tear, etc. They replace the cabin pollen filter which is the biggest expense other than oil and filter change. The dealers quote different prices. I went from $600+ to $450 after some haggling. My indicator came on around 19,500 miles and said "Service in 400 mi" or something like that (I guess it isnt very accurate with mileage) and I took it in shortly thereafter.

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

I did my own first service at 3500 mi.(oil change)
I don't care what the factory says. I figure $50 every
4-5 k miles for an oil and filter change is cheap insurance for a 100k car .

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

Is it dificult to do you own oil change on the Pcar?

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

had mine at 7500 miles... i paid for oil, filters and labour 300 USD.

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

yea, my dealer told me service at 7500 miles. Still got 1.500 thousand miles to go.

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

    18k miles... about $500

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

So it sounds like there is an indicator telling you when the service is due, but many dealers recommend a service before then...

I'm a bit confused Before picking up my 987S three weeks ago at the factory, my dealer told me to change the oil after the break-in period (3,000 km) and also to let them check the alignment. He also said, that I would find some sticker or something in the new car reminding me of this service.
However, the factory guy in Zuffenhausen told me that there is no need for such service. I just should get the oil change and regular maintenance at 20,000 km or after two years. Also there was no sticker in the car or something else in the manual/service booklet indicating the need for an "early check-up". AFAIK service/oil change requirements for the 997 models are similar to 987 models.

So the question is whether to follow the factory's recommendation or the dealerships recommendation. Of course the dealer will recommend anything generating revenue for the service department, which suffers from the prolonged service intervals for the new P-models (dealer quoted 420 Euro for the early oil-change + alignment check, whereas the factory guy assured me that any need for alignment work should be covered by the warranty and therefore the dealer should provide the service without charging for it)

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

    follow factory recommendation.

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

Had mine at just under 8,000 miles. $500.

Included some service actions (e.g. new exhaust tips) and also an oil leak. The service rep claimed it wasn't the RMS, but "near it". They had to remove transmission, it appears.

(I hadn't noticed any leak, but occasionally had to top up the oil).

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

its either rms or not. if the seal leaks, it leaks. cant be near it....

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

The leak can be in the neighborhood of the RMS, can't it?

Just had mine done 7800 miles, Lube , Oil and Filter. I dont drive a lot. This is a launch car so it is 19 month's old and I figured I better get it done. $220 dollars at the dealer

    It is very simple.
Put the car on jacks or onto ramps.
Remove oil drain plug and oil filter .
Wait 10-15 mins. for the oil to drain .
Replace the plug, screw in new filter and fill with new oil.
    DONE.
You will need an 8mm socket wrench for the oil plug and a 74mm wrench for the filter ( $3.95 at Walmart )

    Total cost for 8 qts.Mobil 0-W40 and new oil filter ~ $50

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

Thanks! It sounds a simple as any other vehicle, I wonder why places like Jiffy Lube don't do it????

Re: Who has had their first service and what was the milage?

Had mine done at the dealer at 5K miles for $80, yes $80. I love my service advisor. I will change every 5K miles.
