    Manual Sport Shifter

    Does anyone have experience with the porsche manual sport shifter. I am wondering what to expect from this option. Does it materially speed up gear changes. What are the primary differences between the standard shifter and the sport shifter. Thanks in advance for the feedback...cheers

    The throws on the short shifter are, well, shorter. Great option. They warn it can be notchy in the cold, but I really never noticed any difference here in Chicago.

    I think the notchiness was more of an issue with the 996 gearbox. I had a short shifter on my last 996 and didn't like it all the time I had the car. I found it lacked precision on cross-gate shifts. I suspect there were inconsistencies from one car to another, because other people did not share my opinion.

    I did not order a short shifter for my 997S for that reason, but suspect that I would have been more satisfied this time around. The shift in the 997's new gearbox is lighter/smoother all round, so would be more tolerant of the shorter movement/ higher force resulting from the short-shifter linkage.

    The short shifter is a bit heavy when it is cold and you do need to put some force behind when shifting gears. As soon as the car has warmed up it goes really smooth and light. However, it is certainly not an issue which should effect your decision to get it or not.

    I concur, when the car is cold, the short shifter seem to have more of an attitude than a standard shifter, or myabe I am the one with an attitude.

    I wonder if it will help the acceleration time for the manual. If not the car will still probably feel quicker and more sporty.

    I don't think the car will accelerate any better but being able to shift faster will get you there faster than the competition if you shift properly.

    If shifting faster translates into speed then it falls out the 0-100 times would also fall...short shifter it is...that should be my last option change...unless of course I get shamed into it by the "Trippies"..:-) Sometimes just talking about these things helps you arrive at an answer... cheers

    You need to drive a 997 with the short shifter Loran. I don't have experience with the 996 version, but I drove both before I bought mine and absolutely love it. You can seriously bang gears with absolute precision. It is a little grumpy when the car is cold, but that is minor and you get used to it... after it is somewhat warm, it is killer. Personal preference though, drive both! I wouldn't buy another without it Welcome to the board, good luck with your decision

    I think it's only notchy on the downshift to first gear. Other than that, it's as smooth as butter.

    had mine retrofitted at porsche, it came up too hard to shift. i made them take it off again.
