    997 Turbo Sport Chrono

Porsche claims 3.9 seconds to 100 KPH with the standard turbo. Should we expect a reduction in sprint times with the optional Sport Chrono package?
    Thanks for replying

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

check other posts...with sport chrono its 3,7.
standard 0-200 is 12,8 with sport chrono 12,2.

Those are the Tiptronic times, although they may also be the Turbo SC times, who knows?

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

It only seems logical the extra tourque would translate into faster excelleration off the line. It's surprising porsche wouldn't discuss this element as part of the features of sport chrono. In any event I have a July build...with SC...I can't wait

It will certainly give you better acceleration times, but its true value lies in spirited open road driving, where wou accelerate of out the corners. In a straight line it will benefit at higher speeds, as the extra 60 Nm of torque will help a lot.

    Standard Turbo times:
    0-100 kph (60 mph) 3.9 sec
    0-200 kph (125 mph) 12.8 sec

    Tiptronic:
    0-100 kph 3.7 sec
    0-200 kph 12.2 sec
0-200 kph (Sport Chrono) 11.6 sec

This is all I have regarding Sport Chrono, the 11.6 sec. are UNOFFICIAL, I got this number from one of our sources.
Earlier I had a 11.8 sec figure but apparently I got it wrong.
From 0-100 kph, there doesn't seem to be an improvement with Sport Chrono activated but at higher speeds, the differences are clearly there. Just to give you a hint about what we're talking, a 997 Turbo Tiptronic with Sport Chrono hits Pagani Zonda grounds up to 200 kph and it "beats" the F430 F1 time by more than a second.

Ordering the 997 Turbo without Sport Chrono is the dumbest thing to do, the second one would be to order the 997 Turbo with manual (just kidding... ).

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

This forum has prooved very informative on the Tiptronic. I am convinced it likely outperforms in most instances. I still can't get past the manuals interactive appeal. I just like shifting myself..as flawed as this sounds I guess I remain in the dumb club..albeit dumd with Sport Chrono

Get the manual. You'll have more fun and you won't have any regrets.

11.6s would be an excellent number and a positive surprise

BTW: Would you currently expect that Porsche will introduce the GT2 with PDK

I'd imagine a GT2 with PDK and Sport Chrono (which should be standard anyway) would reach 200 km/h at under 11 seconds. I'd think that Porsche would do that, so as to make the GT2 convincingly faster than a 997TT Tip to 200 km/h, for marketing reasons. That will be one hot car.

I totally agree. Such car would be excellent!

The only question is when will Porsche introduce it? And also, I would have to live without PSM (which is somehow compensated by the TC).

Anyhow, I think it could be my next Porsche (if available within the next 18 months or so)...

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

11.6 secs 0-200 pheeew, thats supercar territory !
absolutely smashing ! now the waiting will be even harder !

if the 997 turbo-Tip-SC is 1 second faster than F430 in the 0-200 km/h i will be the happest guy on earth.

My best friend just ordered an F430 and he really need a whooping...cause he doesnt give the turbo the respect it deserves....

becoming as restless as an 11 year old and 5-6 months to go.....

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

intouch nice one! you must show to your friend that porsche have NAME and SPEED, a complete CAR. :D

    I have a PCNA one page flyer with the following;
    0-60 3.7 manual, 3.4 tip
    50-75 3.8 manual, 3.5 tip
    1/4 mile 11.8 manual, 11.6 tip
It also says "Specifications for comparison only." at the bottom in fine print.

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

btw thas anyone know if a limited slip diff would be a problem with pdk, since pdk is closer (in construction not effect) to a manual gearbox. that together with the extra gear (5 vs 6) should give it an edge over the tipitronic (maybe less wight as well). can anyone shed some lght on this!?
    thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure LSD won't be a problem with PDK. If marketed as we predict (the ultimate in performance, triumph of technology, etc.), it will absolutely HAVE TO be compatible with LSD. Also, there isn't really any technological problem here, so yes.

    Re: 997 Turbo Sport Chrono

Isn't it a ROOM problem? A DSG gearbox takes up a lot more room than a standard manual (having two clutches), it still might be an issue.

They'll handle it. In order to offer it in the GT3 and GT2, which have LSD, they HAVE TO handle it.
