    First post.....clutch pedal problem??

    Hi guys, this is my first post. Hope you can give me some feedback. I have a 2001 996TT and the past few days, I have noticed that the clutch pedal takes slightly more effort to press down. There has always been a clicking sound/feel when I press the pedal but it seems to be a little louder and a little stiffer than usual. The pedal feels normal when it's in neutral but as soon as the car's moving and the gears are engaged, this is where I notice the difference. I've also noticed that, in the past few days, when I come up to a stop and press the clutch pedal, the car just dies on me and I'd have to restart it (it's happened around 3 times so far). Besides that, everything seems fine...there's no slipping and the car seems to run smoothly. Any thoughts would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

    I find the TT's power assisted clutch to be too light for comfort, so I'd be inclined to welcome it requiring more effort.
    It does sound like you just may have the beginnings of a problem with either the clutch's own hydraulic circuit, or with the (separate) clutch power assistance hydraulic circuit, which is powered by the PAS steering pump.

    The clicking sound + feel you describe is a known phenomenon. It was discussed a long time ago here on rennteam, and I think that someone mentioned there was Tech Bulletin issued to dealers on it. Nothing serious, just annoying and only requires lubrication of a clutch pedal bearing bush, if I remember correctly.

    If you are sure you are not imagining the heavy pedal issue, you should get it checked by your dealer before it leaves you stranded at the side of the road some day.

    It sounds like your clutch is not releasing fully when you depress the pedal.

    Do the clutch accumulator test and if its OK then you're heading towards a new clutch (which I'm 90% sure it is)...the pressure plate is gone and needs a new one but since the engine is out (on TT's the engine must come out) you change the whole lot (disc, throw bearing and pressure plate) if you plan to boost power or use your car hard go for an X50/GT2 clutch kit which is slightly more expensive but considerably more heavy duty.
