Child seat for the back of the 997

My son will be 1 year old soon and with the summer approaching would love to take him with my wife in the 997 on a few road trips.

Anyone using either the Porsche Junior Seat, Recaro young sport or any other seat in the back of their 997? Any experience or views on seats please.

    thanks in advance.

Re: Child seat for the back of the 997

it's better and safer tu use the child seat in the front seat (as long as you deactivate the airbag, it's easier tu use and you can check on him more easily).
that's easy to find in porsche's oficial site.

You're right, except the part about his wife divorcing him...

I have the Porsche Junior seat for my 4 year old. He's big enough not to have to use that bulky and goofy lap cushion. It fits great and he has plenty of room even with the passenger seat back a bit. My wife fits fine in the passenger seat with him in it.

    Here's a pic...

    Thanks Alin2!

Do you know if the seat will also fit a normal car like a BMW 530?

We're using the Porsche Junior seat in all our cars, it isn't too heavy and you'll be surprised to hear that it fits perfectly in the front trunk of the 997/987.
We have two of them, one for our 2-year old (judging by weight) and one for our 5-year old. It is height adjustable, very nice and simple. It doesn't fit a one year old though.
Just be careful with cars who need some sort of sensor in the CHILD SEAT for automatic airbag deactivation (like some older Mercedes models). In the rear, there shouldn't be any compatibility problems with most cars, just make sure you don't put the seat in the middle of the rear bank.

Slightly off topic, but Alin...how did you get Yellow Safety belts - those look very cool? Do they come in other colours too and is it possible to order these from Porsche or an after market supplier?

    Thanks!

You can order colored seat belts from Porsche on a new car. Getting them as a retrofit item from Exclusive/Tequipment department is possible in some countries but not cheap (incl. install).
Available colors are red, yellow and blue as far as I know. Other colors may be possible but I don't know.

You should not be using this seat for a one-year old unless he is a giant kid... You need to match the kid to the seat, then the seat to the car. Many have mentioned the Britax Roundabout or Marathon as possibilities for one year olds... They should be able to fit in the rear seat (front facing) with some loss to the passenger's leg room...

The chair pictured here is definitely for older children (eg.,the 4 y.o. mentioned in Alin's post). I had this very same discussion with my wife to day as I drove in the family SUckV

Re: Child seat for the back of the 997

Both the Porsche Junior seat and Recaro young sport are group 1 for 20-55lb children. My son should be 24.5lb at his next check up in the next few weeks. Not sure about the porsche website saying for 9mths to 7 years. I'll wait to put him in the back until he is at least 12mths.

Thank you RC...appreciate the speedy reply!

    Cheers,
    Paul

No worries. Glad to help. I do use the seat when I have to in my other car...a Jeep Grand Cherokee. But, I have to admit that it is definitely more bulky than other booster seats by Graco or Britax.

Re: Child seat for the back of the 997

This Porsche seat (which I own) is a little bit unconfortable for one year-old kids. The "tray" that holds them is designed for older kids. This is why I bought a Römmer seat for my daughter until she grows older. I have installed it of the fron seat.
