    Turbo Targa

    hey everybody,

    what would you think of a turbo with a targa glass roof ?
    i think that would be absolutely gorgeous. pity porsche did not consider offering a panoramic glass roof.

    it's very heave, i know. but with the turbo's performance it should be no problem. and as it would be optional it's for everyone to decide what they like.

    the panorama on my cayenne is absolutely gorgeous. gives a great sense of space.

    also the 996 targa was great.

    Its a good idea and would be a nice alternative although I would not opt for it beacause of the weight it adds to the top of the car.

    But have you experienced any rattle sounds with Targa top? My previous experiences with it wasn't so good.

    My view is, that porsche should offer the forms coupe, cab and targa on all models.. would make life a lot easier for the customers

    Dead on... I think they should offer it as options on all models, besides cars like theGT2/# of course... Kinda like cabriolet versions....

    The targa roof on a turbo will be amazing...

    joost, spot on !!

    the targa roof on the turbo would make the car so much more enjoyable, that i would gladly sacrifice a fracture of a second in performance.

    it doesn't even have to be such complex and feature an open close mechanism. just a glassroof with a rollo. greenhouse effect !

    those glass roofs make the car seem really spacious and special.

    maybe RC can convince his friends at porsche to consider this.....but most probably development cost will prohibit !!

    I'd love such a car too. Oh wait, I'd hate it, because I can only afford a n/a Targa.

    You're spot on about development costs. The Turbo is available as convertible because the demand for it is very strong. The Turbo convertible is different from the Carrera convertible though, as the extra power implies extra stiffness. Given that the n/a Targa doesn't sell as much as Porsche wished, it won't be worth the extra cost.
    The did a Turbo Targa back in the late 80's, and it's probably one of the rarest 911 ever (not counting oddities like the 1972 911 2.7S, the hybrid 964-993 Turbo Cabriolet, or the 993 Speedster).

    A friend of mine had a 993 targa and the roof made for a great driving experience no matter the weather. I would consider a targa TT.

    I had my 993 Targa for 9 years before trading in for the current 997S.

    The targa experience is amazing. Yes, 95% of the time the top is open, even at at temp just over freezing with the heat on high. When it rain, it makes a nice rainfall picture on the top. The cabin is always bright...

    There is ALWAYS some rattle noise, less so when top is open. The only problem is when it started to leak, the repair bill can be high due to labour cost of taking the top off.

    i do adore the targa concept.

    the actual performance detriment shuoldnt be that much since from the 996 generation onwards, it was based on the coupe chassis.

    i had a 996 targa briefly 2 years ago and it always left a special impression in my heart. the roof was wonderful and let in so much brilliant sunshine.

    i do agree about the coupe/cab/targa idea for porsche.

    on the turbos/carrera/carrera 4, all 3 forms should be offered.

    targa could simply be an option, as it is with panorama roofs with other manufactuers or on the cayenne.

    no offense to the targa intended: but the concept isnt that strange, it doesnt require an entirely new name, its basically just a coupe with a huge sunroof and a hatchback window.

    this is a great option and should definitly be availible as an option for the turbo.
