    997 Cabrio Softtop

    hey everybody,

    have my 997 S cab now exactly one year. 7850 kms on the clock. great car, however:

    the soft-top has become so noisy when its closed, its unbearable. all the metal structure is knocking and banging.
    the sides where the cloth covers the two pillars just behind the rear side windows is coming off. the glue has melted and lost its adhesive effect.

    i am shocked as to how bad the quality is....actually i have decided not to buy a porsche cab again. i always preferred the soft- top look to the hardtop look a la sl and many others by now. but as to longevity, there is no comparison.

    i am glad i am shifting the car in five months, when i take delivery of my turbo coupe.

    anybody else experiencing similar problems ?

    Probably a defect and would be fully covered under warranty. If this was happening to a lot of 997 Cabs we would have heard a lot more about this. I'm sure your dealer will be able to repair/replace the top.

    This sounds like an anomaly. My softtops have been great and have heard the same thing from other owners. Over time, all soft tops require some adjustment to remedy squeakes. That is normal. The glue and fabric issues are not. It's too bad that it had to happen with your car but it is surely fixable.

    Would this be something that could be aggrivated by your extreme summers?

    Summers do get quite hot and humid here. However, the car has not been used that much and is always parked in the shade. Will take it to the service center and see what they say...
