    New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

IT HAS BENN CONFIRMED FROM A SOURCE IN GERMANY THAT IN 2007 THE ENGINE OF THE BOXSTER WILL BE 250 HP AND THE BOXSTER S 295 HP...HONESTLY ITS REALLY UNFAIR FOR ALL 987 OWNERS...

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

Turn off your CAPS...you don't have to shout, we hear ya.
As long as we don't have an OFFICIAL confirmation, we should consider your post a possibility. There are several rumors that the Boxster S gets a power upgrade for the next model year but there is nothing really official yet.

Personally, I never understood why Porsche offers a seperate engine for the Cayman S and Boxster S. Doesn't make any real sense from a production point of view.

Unfair? What is unfair? That a car manufacturer improves their products? This happens all the time. What do you expect Porsche to do, to announce improvements one year ahead, so nobody buys the "old" products anymore?!

Best example Mercedes: remember the S600 and the S55 AMG? "Over night", these cars received 500 HP engines, a ~ 140 HP increase. How do you think the owners of the "older" models felt?! Or take the facelifted Mercedes CLK AMG model: "over night", more than 110 HP more.

This isn't unfair, just the way how business works: new products come all the time and a year or two later, the new product is and old one. Simple rule.

Yes, I would be disappointed as a Boxster/Boxster S owner who just bought a car. Maybe I would even be mad at Porsche and my dealer. But like I said before, this is how business works. One reason I never understood why people are waiting for certain products and don't get the current ones. Again a very good example: a guy I know didn't want to get the 996 Turbo back in 2000 because he wanted the Turbo S. He finally got a Turbo S last year. Now guess how he feels now that the new 997 Turbo is just around the corner but it was his own fault, I told him back in 2000 that he'll get a Turbo S when the new Turbo will be just around the corner.

Each and every year a new product is coming. More options, new options, some improvements (some visible, some unknown to the public), more power, less bugs, etc. You just can't blame a manufacturer for doing that.
And believe it or not, most dealers don't know about model changes, only a few are lucky enough to pick up the right signals (or sometimes infos) from Porsche. So don't be mad at anyone, just enjoy your current Porsche (if you own one). The 987 still looks the same and strangers sometimes even have the difficulty to see the visual difference between the 986 and 987. And I doubt that the performance will increase in a spectacular way, 15 HP aren't just enough for that, relax.

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

    RC is exactly right.

Don't feel bad about the possible (not confirmed) upgrade. Couple months ago mcdelaug and I test drove the new Cayman S and mcdelaug '05 Boxster S back to back and I can tell you there was no Difference in the Power that one could tell. May be in the track you can tell the difference but even in the highway we did more than 110 mph and truly neither I nor mcdelaug felt the extra 15hp on the Cayman S.

So enjoy what you got and don't worry about what's coming next.

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

Ten horsepower means nothing really, don't sweat it. Wait three years or so when they upgrade again and THEN start thinking of trading up.

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

I agree. I decided to stick with my order for a MY06 Boxster S for several reasons. One of which was that I am certain there will be a price increase along with the HP increase if this rumor proves to be true. So not only will I get to have my 987S sooner, it will cost less, too!

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

I can't get excited about 15hp. The fact is that where I live, the car has more than enough performance and is fun to drive. I know we all love these cars, but these mid-cycle engine tweaks are basically meaningless. I think it would be better to see less gouging on colors or loading more options into the base car. That's one thing good about Z4s and SLKs - they 'help' Porsche provide better value to their customer base.

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

you are right , all cars have to improve but porsche never did an upgrade on its cars in such a short time.... i would have understood if in 4 or 5 years this would have happenned .
as you said ,porsche is doin this upgrade from a production point of view, at least this is what i have been told .
i also heard that the boxster will be more expensive, so for those who have already ordered their cars ,this point might be comforting.
i guess there are no rules for improvment , get the car as soon as possible and enjoy the drive cose if you haven't done this yet, you are really missing out .

Maybe not from production, but from marketing the only way Porsche could justify the ridiculous price difference between Boxster S and Cayman S, surely?

    AND EVEN

    So True !!

And if this "News" is true (I think so), what will Porsche do with the prices NOW ??
"Normally" Boxster S price should GO UP to Cayman S level, AND EVEN HIGHER because it's A Cab !!
The 3.4L should have been in the Boxster S from the beginning, BUT for Porsche it was THE ONLY WAY to make that ridiculous higher price for their upcoming new product
Let's see HOW MUCH the price difference will be now...
I, for one, am very happy with my 3.2L and 15 HP more isn't really a noticable difference (like some others said)

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

If the Boxster S gets the 3.4L 295hp engine then what happens to the marketing that tried to distinguish betweenn the CaymanS and BoxsterS???? Surely they can't increase the price by $6000 CAD so it's the same as the Cayman? How would they justify Cayman's price then because now they are using the performance difference (even though it is very minimal) to justify the upcharge. It doesn't make sense.... No where else in the automotive world does the coupe cost more than the cab.

Porsche would cut the cost of the Cayman S to match the Boxster S, of course!

Tell me Dreamcar, do you have the bacon for your English breakfast delivered by airmail?

Think about that a little, if you don't immediately understand the question.

New BoxsterS? What's that? No, you mean the Cayman Volante.

Not only the actual Cayman engine, but also the actual Cayman transmission, actual Cayman suspension, actual Cayman...

Re: New Engines For Boxsters Confirmed?

Well, I'd be happy if they upped the Boxster price to match the Cayman... That'd make my car look much cheaper on the used market - help reduce residuals...
For the new engine, it's not the extra power I'm interested in, it's the better (?) spread of torque, if it's more useful to me in the day-to-day driving I do.... must find time to test drive a Cayman...
