    997 TT door compared to 997

    Found this on the web, looks interesting, just asking myself why not give the 997 also this benefits. I think for them producing one style of doors would be much more efficient instead of two. Also since the turbo door looks as much faster to mount. Only 5 different parts.
    Is it possible that Porsche cares to much about maximum profit?

    Is it possible that the turbo door is a lot more expensive? For example because the lighter and better shaped parts are harder to produce.

    Edit; very nice find though! Very interesting to see where the price diffs come from, and where the weight diffs... pics you don't see very often!

    As a thought, the aluminum will most likely ding easier causing very unhappy customers though I do like the idea of shedding a few pounds. Is 30lbs worth the extra fragility of dings?

    GT3 will have Aluminum doors as well...

    997's can't be far behind....MY07?

    997 MkIIs get more hp, maybe a little less porkbelly (doors a good place to start)?

    Weideking has said that the next big challenge for Porsche is to lose weight. Porsche have already said that the flat-6 cannot grow beyond 4 liters so they're running out of adding power as the only solution to staying competitive. As an example of being weight conscious the GT3 doesn't have the DSG gearbox yet because it's 10kg's heavier than the standard gearbox.

    You could hypothesise that Porsche will add more aluminum body panels for 998 and then go full aluminum spaceframe for 999, perhaps sharing that technology with Audi and Lamborghini.

    Have never seen published crash test results for lim produc cars like 997/SL/430....

    But when looking at UK P site's explan of crash force design of 997TT, esp where the high strength steel and crash structure engineering is invested in doors/roof of car, I sense P has thought this through.....

    I have more concerns re: roof strength of SL65/55 retractable roof (consider that an SUV bumper is aimed at head level of most 997/SL/430 drivers)....

    And the 430 w/its all-alum body, lim produc vols (and prob lim crash testing), lack of side/head airbags, and dubious fuel tank placement is the most, shall we say, "thrilling" design of all......
