    997 C S Traction

    I have driven my Carrera S Cab a bit over 7500 kms now and feel that the tires are starting to lose grip.

    When I enter a tight bend at about 60km/h and accellerate full throttle the rear really gives way. in sport mode that is and i really have to actively pull the car in line.

    Is anybody else experiencing this ? My car is a tiptronic by the way.

    When I first got it I was amazed at the level of grip. Now I have to be really cautious when playing around the bends as it really slides about. Tire pressure is spot on by the way.

    Any ideas ?

    How does the rear times look? Are they worn? Could be time for a new set.

    Actually they do not look thaaat worn.
    What is your experience with the pilot sports 2 ? I think they should be good for about 15k km's of 'normal' driving....

    i had the same expeience when my tires were wearing out. get a tire thread gauge a check how much tread is left. when new you have 10/32" completely worn out 2/32".

    mine were ps2 with 5800km, and have no were to mesure how deep it is. they worked really well until the rope starter showing. now i have to change them and im considering both contis and pirelli. contis have a higher wear number (280) and pirellis are much cheaper with the same number as contis (220). my only doubt is, will they work well as the michelins did. i will really apreciata help on that.

    i would certainly go eith the michelins again. you should also make sure they are n 87 rated for front and n 100 for back as this is what porsche oem's.

    I have Pirelli's - they seem to work very well. Last year I also tracked a 997S with them - very good, predictable grip. Interesting that the wear rating for the Pirellis is better than the Michelins - is that right? If so I am surprised as the PZeros seem pretty sticky when warmed up.

    No problems with the rear stepping out (yet) - in fact so far I get a smidgen of understeer if anything (it's a 997C2S manual), though you can always "encourage" the rear to slide a little

    Not sure about the wear on them yet - you have made me sufficiently nervous to have a look this weekend! (Car has 7.5k miles or so).

    My exp. wit the Micheline PS2 is that they are a bit softer compared to Pirelli/ conti. hence in hot climate.. they wear faster..ie. egypt in your case, dubai in my case.. I have P zero from factory done 4500 km and acts like new so far... I had M PS2 on my M5 and they worn in 9000 km... so good luck .. I say depends on the country: so give it a few trials.
