    VW to build Panamaras

    The VW Wolfsburg factory has been selected by Porsche to build and paint the Panamara bodies.

    So, will the cars be trimmed out and their mechanical bits fitted their also? Or will Porsche shuttle them back to Dresden or Stuttgart for their final "Porscherization"?

    Will we also see a VW version? a la "Wolfsurg Edition"

    A Google translation of the AMS article says that the painted bodies will be sent to Leipzig for further assembly. They mention that the same system is used for the Cayenne.

    Help me out here, does "body" mean just the metal "shell", or would it be more?

    That seems more or less correct.

    It probably has door, hood and tail-gate/trunk shells attached and any other painted body-color parts.

    When the "body" arrives in Leipzig, it's ready to start attaching parts to it.

    I'm not quite sure I understand the "problem"?
    I prefer Wolfsburg vs. Bratislava.

    I know that Volkswagen doesn't have a very good reputation in the US but over here in Germany, Volkswagen is ranked above Opel (GM), Fiat and all other competitors in the same market with the exception of Audi (lots of VW are actually sharing a huge amount of parts with Audi, quality level is not very different, depending on the model), BMW and Mercedes.

    Also don't forget that Porsche owns now over 20% of Volkswagen and even has pretty much control over their decisions, including the Volkswagen owned Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley.

    Trust me, Volkswagen builds good quality, not the best compared to BMW and Mercedes but pretty good. Slightly below Audi level maybe.

    US-spec VWs are built in Mexico. Cheaper to build than in Germany, but cheaper built. I guess you get what you pay for.

    It's like buying a US-built Mercedes or BMW. The quality is terrible. The difference between two otherwise identical models can be astounding. I had a friend with a gasoline ML320, it felt like a Chevy inside (made in the USA for the US market) - whereas another's Diesel ML320 CDi was very nice (made in Austria for the EU market).
