Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)
I have always maintained that 918 owners should receive priority because you as you stated they paid close to a million dollars for a car that initially wasn't being reviewed that well. It is only right that limited models go to them first. However, that does not justify ignoring their base of good customers who have bought several Porsches but do not have the money to pay a million dollars for a model.
I also agree that whatever enhancements found in the R will be found in the 992 if not sooner in the 991.2.
What puzzles me is the is the car itself. Other than the claim that it is a drivers car there is nothing to distinguish the car other than it is a manual with more hp than a regular 911. No doubt it is lighter than most 911's but it's performance isn't commiserate with the hp and weight. To make the car lighter the car has plastic interior, no radio or A/C and plastic exterior. To get this the buyer is paying a hefty premium.
AP skates around the car deficiencies by saying it is not a track car not designed for performance. Rather its about the driving experience and designed for street driving. Yet he lost control of the car while demonstrating it to a reporter. I found that hilarious and sad at the same time.
With this post I am ending my Jihad against this car. FWIW, if I was offered A R I would buy it in a heartbeat and flip it at the appropriate time. The passion of hardcore Porsche enthusiast migrates to their wallets and they willingly accept getting fleeced.
