    PCM 991.2 in 991.1?

    Hi,

does anyone has an idea if we can put the new PCM (991.2) in a 991.1 car?

The connection to the CAM bus should be the same, or? Maybe the dimensions has changed? Looking at the picture it looks like we could retrofit a 991.2 PCM in a 991.1 car.

It would be best to ask your dealer as, if it is possible, the dealer would probably be provided with a Tech Bulletin describing the correct procedure for the installation. (I suspect the car's system has to be recoded to recognise the new hardware).

The last info I got, a few weeks ago, was NO. No chance for a retrofit.

However, I would ask again after a few months, you never know.

A retrofit is possible. The only problem is the amount of work. You have to adapt and change parts of the cable system. For that you have to remove a lot of parts. So it is very very expensive and not worth ist.

Last information I got is: Impossible. For various software, control unit(s) and cable adaptation related reasons. Impossible for regular Porsche dealers but probably not impossible for Porsche if they want to.

Maybe they should offer some sort of retrofit kit but would you pay 5k or 6k for such a kit? I doubt it. I know I wouldn't.

Porsche should better offer a BOSE "enhancement" kit with different loudspeakers for older cars who didn't get Burmester. It would be easily possible and it shouldn't cost them a lot but they could sell it for at least 1k or more.

As I have written - it costs a lot of money and it is possibe - 5k or 6k 7k ... the problem is they can´t value your old PCM regardless how new it is

Ferrari offers a "PCM" retrofit and it costs around $5k. Aston Martin offered a factory update for $1k to add bluetooth music to their cars. Kudos for them to even offer it.

I thought Porsche did the same, until you reach the nearest Porsche Service Center and they tell you to shoo shoo Smiley

Yes you can upgrade your radio in your air cooled 911s, but it took Porsche about 17 years to come up with that . I hope we don't have to wait that long to upgrade /retrofit the PCM.

Even if it was possible you'd have more money than sense to upgrade at those kind of numbers! Smiley

    Re: PCM 991.2 in 991.1?

Somehow it actually makes sense not to offer a retrofit, not only by software incompatibilities, but by hardware changes, like connectors and mounting points. This will prevent all 991.2, 982, and MY2017 Cayenne and Macan effectively from thieves - at least concerning the PCM.

    Re: PCM 991.2 in 991.1?

They don't offer retrofit because they want you to buy another car after 3 years... CarPlay alone is a reason to force someone to have a new car...
