The 911 R is the Trump of the Porsche model range.

This is what you can get for $200,000. 610hp and would spank the 911R on any performance test. I just don't understand the passion for the 911R.

What do you think these two cars will be worth in 5 years?  Where is the beautiful gated shifter in the Lambo?

I agree with Nick (frequentlySmiley).  I would get the Lambo in a second over the 911R.  Since the 991 I have disliked all the buttons and switches all over the place.  Way overpriced too.  Lambo all the way for the same or even a little more.Smiley

Grant, your GT 4 is a great buy. It provides terrific performance in a mi engine manual car for less than $100,000. The R is a spare parts special which doubles the price of the GT 4 and marginally better performance. Don't get sucking in by Porsche marketing.

I cannot say how well the resale value of the R will be. But most are buying the car not to flip it but to drive it. It will not drive much better than your GT4. It is beyond my comprehesion that anyone would pay over double what a GT4 goes for.If your unlucky enough to get an allocation, unless your thinking of flipping it think twice.

The Huracan is in a different league in styling, performance and gravitas. The R will disappear if it is parked next to a Huracan. The R is Donald Trump on steroids.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

nberry, it makes sense to buy a 911 R because there are idiots out there who will probably pay you a $50-100K premium the day you take delivery for a special edition. In that sense, the 911 R is better value that just about everything else because just about everything else will be worth $50K less the day you take delivery.

Resale will be interesting. If what people on here said is true, a GT3 with wing-delete and manual is coming with the 991.2 GT3, so I really can't see how a 911 R would carry much premium at all once that gets announced. The 911 R will essentially become just a worse 991.2 GT3.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Not all of us want a car show off car like Lamborghini. End of story. Also, the Huracan has been criticised for the way it understeers and ease of use to appease the rich in China and Russia who aren't always the best drivers. Not the best driver's car out there!

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

OK, I admit it. I am a 911 nerd. I like 911s and I would never consider buying a Lamborghini Huracan. Perhaps the Huracan might be cheaper, or better, or better value, but still I dream about the 911 R. I guess if you like 911s and Porsche spends a lot of time and thinking creating a modern lightweight car with an engine to die for, that is, at least for some, quite exciting.

I am planning on getting my car in white with red stripes, red side decos and black interior. I will spec the car as light as possible (no leather, single mass flywheel etc.), but add back AC and the 90 l tank. I think thats it!

Omg that is pretty much my spec too! Still tossing up the front lift though for practicality. In any case I need to get an allocation first.

the RWD huracan is a fantastic driver's car, very little understeer, certainly great for the road (isn't that what preuninger has decreed for the R as well?). it is a design icon which should not be compared in the least to the squashed beetle look of the R. the only reason i can live with the RS is the funny rear wing which takes away most of that retro beetle look. the wing is definitely not beautiful but at least .....different. anyway, if you buy the R as an investment proposition you will be doing fine most likely, just like a low-medium-risk stock because we don't know what the preuninger-marketing machinery will invent in the near future. they are certainly an inventive crowd:::))))

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

If someone looks at the Huracan as an alternative for a 911 R, he clearly doesn't understand the concept of the car. Two completely different products, maybe even for completely different folks. I would love to own both but if I had to choose, I would take the 911 R. Seriously.

pmarkow: it is a design icon which should not be compared in the least to the squashed beetle look of the R.

Between the Huracan and a 911, I consider the latter to be the "design icon"...

I much prefer the "squashed beetle look" of a 911 to the "trying too hard" look of most Lambos. Not that the two cars are comparable as they push different buttons and have different goals IMO.

You must also understand that aesthetics are subjective and some of us do love the 911's timeless and iconic shape.

I like the Huracan, but I find the "R" many orders of magnitude more desirable. Not all of us perceive "desirability" in the same way Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I wouldn't want to be seen in a Huracan even if I was offered money. Especially not in a bold color. Probably different depending on where you live, but for me that car is "too much in your face" and "too busy" both inside and out. If I would ever would own a lambo it has to be something from the 70's. The 911R on the other hand is pure class and understated yet giving enough attention. Driving a 911R also sends out the message that it is a pure petrol head behind the wheel compared to the show off perception driving a Huracan angry

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I love the "squashed beetle look" of the 911 and I love the fact that 99% of the people will not recognize an R even with the stripes on. Looks are subjective so to each its own.

Comparing raw performance figures doesn't make sense. We all know that PDK is much better for performance.

The 911R is a very special car but I still think that Porsche should have used PDK and offered back seats. They would still have sold the same amount of cars, I am pretty sure about it. Actually, why make this a limited edition and not offer the 911R as a regular model? PDK and backseats for regular people and manual, single mass flywheel, light weight stuff and no backseats for the hardcore crowd. Everyone would be happy.

My daughter says the same but not my wife. Smiley This is why the daughter usually sits in the front seat and my wife and the son in the backseats. Not for long distances though, 60-70 km, at max.

When the kids were younger, they actually enjoyed sitting in the rear of the 911 but once they get over the age of 10 or 11, the fun is over, I agree.

Why should I lie, if Porsche would have offered a 911 GT3 convertible without backseats, I would have taken it. Unfortunately... Smiley Smiley

Many 911 drivers I know have kids...or a dog or two...or they need the backseats as some sort of luggage room (which of course works well even without backseats but the space is there, unlike in cars like the Huracan for example).

The motive I hear most when it comes to choosing a 911 over here in Germany is quite unspectacular: The 911 is a classic and socially "accepted". People do not care (that much) if you drive a 911 in Germany. Of course it is still a luxury car and people know it is expensive but still, you can "afford" driving one. Never get issues with the 911 in my business parking lot, which surprised me a lot. The Cayenne for example was a different story and even my former C63 AMG Coupe caught more attention.
