    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Sorry, no pic. The rear of the car was too close to the wall and too low to get a good angle.

I had imagined a well sculptured piece of carbon, hence the disappointment.

Carbon: Maybe it would be very expensive replacing it... looks like it might need replacement from time to time as it sits rather close to the ground.

Carbon? No that's for the 2032 995 model...

Maybe. Ferrari must have missed that. Last time I checked they did not sport bent metal diffusors with studs  Smiley

Looks like Ferrari missed a lot of things. They forgot people wanted manual gearboxes and steel brakes too (oh wait no, that's called progress angry).

The air passing under the car doesn't care whether the so-called diffusor reputedly causing a reduction in its pressure is made of metal or of carbon fibre.   Smiley

I say "reputedly" as I would wonder just how effective diffusors really are on road cars with their relatively high ground clearance.

This is of course true. I just had different expectations Smiley Maybe because of all the talk about a "ultralight full carbon R" and existing RS wings in carbon, etc. The diffusor is probably useless for legal speeds anyway, except 200km/h+ on autobahn.

Nevertheless, the R is a very nice car in the metal. The only thing sticking out was the black/brown leather combo which made the seats look like an aftermarket thought.

Ok... Here is pretty credible info from my source who is currently in Geneva.

It in 98% mirrors info provided here by Whoopsy.

991.2 GT3 will be available as manual and PDK. Manual version will be basically 911R mechanical wise with GT3 tuned suspension and new 991.2 GT3 look. PDK version will be same engine combined with PDK and e-diff.

Accelerstion wise manual will be as fast as 911R while PDK will be at least as fast as 991.1 GT3 RS with 320km/h top speed.

Price.... Belive it or not idea is the same price for both manual and PDK. Manual will be positioned as purists version and PDK as non-purists version. PDK will be faster, both acceleration and track time wise.

When... After the production of 991.1 GT3 RS and 911R ends. So, intro could be this year, but deliveries definitely in first half of 2017.

Btw, 991.2 GTS will be definitely introduced in late summer 2016.

To add to that, the 991.2 GT3 will be the show car for Geneva 2017.

The 2018 car, however, should be another special car if they kept their words. Can't say more than that.

So, what do those people who bid up used prices on 997 GT3s feel, now that their cars will no longer be the "last of the manuals"?   If they were keepers no problem, but there has been so much speculation in the car markets recently, that I think many will be pissed..... IMO the fundamental problem in trying to guess now the classics of the future.

Well said. Many "enthusiasts" on the board seem to worry more about resale value than enjoying the ownership of the car.

Oh boy, don't tell me that they really want to put that Carrera RS on the market? Smiley This would be another (interesting) limited edition toy. Maybe I should wait for that one. Smiley

Actually, right now, from a financial and performance point of view, the 991.2 GT3 makes most sense for me. With PDK of course. Smiley

I would love to drive the 911 R to make a final decision but I guess this is something I cannot achieve. Smiley Smiley

Whoopsy/Christian, the special 2018 model could refer to the 991.2 GT2 RS as well, rather than just some kind of Carrera RS as a spin-off from the current R.

Interesting, I haven't actually thought about it. Good point.

There was once a rumor that Porsche plans a Carrera RS but this may have "turned" into the current 911 R. Smiley

I had a look under the R at the diffusor, and it looks extremely basic. Nothing super high-tech there.

What high tech did you expect? They did a well balanced aerodynamic setup, wasn't easy as far as I heard. The 911 R still has a deployable rear wing, doesn't it? Smiley

The diffusor looks like a DIY job. Bent aluminum with studs.

Agreed. Here is a pic from Geneva I took today.

People will convince themselves of something, somehow. They'll always claim that older cars are more "raw' and "involving" just because they have lesser technology.

Porsche prices have risen into a bubble IMO. Lots of cars asking way more than they were just a few years ago. Seinfeld has a lot of cars, but he can also afford far more parking space than he can cars, and he does have like $1B. Maybe he's sensing a bit of a bubble too.

Think the R's light flywheel will be option on GT3?  Usually this is reserved for RS, but since RS is PDK now, maybe?

I bet your right about this, but I also think it will be expensive as it is on the R.

Wonder if they change something more than the flywheel since it is rather expensive.

Single-mass flywheel is in fact cheaper than a dual-mass flywheel. It's just not fitted to other 911s due to poor torsional damping characteristics, not due to cost reasons.

Andreas Preuninger mentioned the single-mass flywheel option includes a heavy duty clutch...
