Pay more for less? Wonderful marketing.

With Porsche GT cars in demand, a good time to bring out the R. I wonder what the profit margin is on this car.

Rarely a car comes along which you cannot imagine ever selling.

The R is one of those cars.

I love the R, but if I bought one at MSRP I would be chomping at the bit to sell it as soon as possible at the current market prices.  I think the 991.2 GT3 will not be kind to R values (still strong, but not like today).

I think the ICE as we know it will be history in the next 15-20 years. Not saying I want to be buried with the car but this is a long term love in from my perspective.

On the subject of cars to buy now and keep, I drove one of these is Hawaii for 48 hours last week. Basic, raw, uncivilised but lots of fun. I need a bigger garage.

Understood - it's a great model and I'm so glad they made it (just sour grapes from me, since my #1 waiting list spot came up empty)  Smiley

Hmm no, have you seen the re-sell price?

R is nothing more than a prototype for the next GT3.

I will have one but for the right price it is gone.

The only car I probably will not consider selling would be the 918. Well unless someone offer me well into the 8 digits.

Noting come close to the meaning and technology in the 918, apart from the 959.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I would get the 911 R, sell it after the embargo period and get a facelifted Aventador SV for it...or a Huracan SL. Then, I would also get a G63 AMG as a family truck and the rest of the money, I would invest on the stock markets. smiley

Guess I should have taken the R... angry mail

488? Not my cup of tea, sorry. No matter how fast.

911R misses the special extra. Rather would choose the RS

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

People fall in love with ideas and in corollary the things that represent them. When a better representation of the "ideal" Porsche sports car comes along the R will take its place along with the other "collectible" and "investment grade" Porsches which represent another set of ideas altogether.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I wanted that 991 R so badly and now I only regret not getting it because I am thinking about that "investment" opportunity and what other nice cars I could have been able to afford after selling that 991 R.

Maybe a sign from god to stick to what I do best and this clearly isn't doing business with cars.

Like you said, there will be other opportunities but I have to admit that my next Porsche will very likely be the 960.

"960?" you say? Yes...it is coming, just not as fast as I anticipated. Smiley Also not sure I will like the engine choice(s).

I guess we all told you that this was a huge mistake. Also - once on the list of a limited edition, you have the chance to be right back with the next one. Each car you can enjoy for some months and then pass it on with benefit. The next in the loop is the GT2RS - you better go back to that dealer and make sure ordering one of those.

I told you before, I'm not in the business of selling cars and I do not want to call in favors just to take advantage of someone. Smiley Yes, I am pretty sure I will regret not getting the GT2 RS either but this is life. If I had the money easily lying in my pocket (or at the bank), it would be a no brainer but I need to pay for the car, I need to keep it a while (and I certainly would want to drive it Smiley) and then I'd need to sell it (which should be easy but... Smiley). I'm a pussy, I know. Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

The intended value of cars like the R and GT2 RS is the pleasure they give the owner in the driving experience or even just the ownership itself.  These cars have no provenance. They are not racing cars with a pedigree or some other factor intrinsic to their histories that add value. Market perceptions are all that drive the current pricing structures where the reward is flipping for profit not driving on a challenging road.  Allowing highly valued customers first refusal of a special edition is fully appropriate, butt turning these cars into something of a commodities future market distorts at least the purported purpose of these cars.

I know but why should I lie? I just don't want to take the risk and the burden and I am also afraid that I could "fall in love" with that car and try to keep it, which would be disastrous for my financials. Smiley

The next Porsche I could say yes again could be the 960, which is rumored to come after 2020.

Falling in love with a car and ruining my financials is something I understand very well indeed! That's the difference between romance and finance.  wink
