    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Could not agree more - same could be said about "test-driving" a car vs living with one having done a couple of thousand km is making a huge difference. This is why I believe only a owner can truly talk about a car - even better when you had a couple of such cars before the opinion becomes more "valuable". However, in a case of Jetro B or other EVO editors , Steve S , or Chris H - their opinion to me are hugely valuable since they have driven extensively different sportscars and do not dilute their opinion with "Mainstream" models.....

Totally agree. There are some journalists that I trust and some I don't.

I'm interested what everyones ideal spec would be? Would anyone really order this car without AC? Honestly?

    Here's my ideal spec...  http://www.porsche-code.com/PGP13SI1

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

If I've got an allocation I would definitely get AC.

    Warm driver = bad driver.

You can offset the AC with an Lithiom Battery. I'd be tempted to spec Bose as I like my tunes when not listening to that glorious engine when on song :-)

Not entirely, because losing the AC saves weight at the rear of the car (battery is in front) and also saves drag on the motor (compressor attached via belt to the crankshaft).  Motor should rev slightly more freely without AC...

If someone is serious about weight loss, they should do BOTH AC and Li Battery, and Radio delete also (since that gets rid of the monitor in the dash that has no place in a stripped-down lightweight sports car, imo).

Though high-end cars come with Li batteries these days, I'd much rather have a big, cheap one. They cost a fortune if they go bad.

There are good quality aftermarket lightweight batteries that cost a small fraction of the Porsche one.

Speaking of heavy batteries. Just replaced mine in the turbo last weekend. The little girl at batteriesPlus picked it up like a 9volt. She had it in and correct in a matter of minutes. I was honored to find out from her coworker that she was a former flight mechanic for the B2 at nearby whiteman afb.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

No matter what you all strip / omit out of your street or track CAR , if any of you weigh more than me : 115 pounds at 5ft 11 inches ( 3 % body fat ) , then you all probably need to lose between 35- 150 lbs off your BODIES .... Period.

I can easily feel the handling/  performance difference when my 110 pound wife rides along ..something ( losing 100 pounds off youy body ) you should ALL think SERIOUSLY about whether your road or track sports  car weighs 1500 or 3100 pounds , if you want ultimate enjoyment of driving !

I stop eating two month before track season: Win-win: Car faster, more money to buy tires and brakes.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Dude. You need to eat!! angel

Besides, I'm 5'11" and at one point when I was sailing in the tropics for a long while got to 165lbs. People thought I had cancer because I looked like a walking skeleton. Everyone is made differently! When I was rowing and sailing (nationally ranked) competitively I was 225lbs with  less than 10% body fat. I would be dead at 115lbs.

To be honest I'm very precise with my food intake. No food=no brain=bad driver.

But it is a good idea to consider what food you eat to avoid those extra kilos.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Do you have an eating disorder or something?

Body builders at the time of competition have like 3% body fat, and they practically starve when cutting.

115 at 5'11 seems way unhealthy.

115 at 5''11 is unhealthy...unless this is his "normal" physiology (there are people who are just like that). My son is also like a beanstalk but he is 12, so we still have hope for him... Smiley

Yes, eating disorders are very common in men as well, only that many men aren't really aware of that.

To keep things in perspective (not that we haven't discussed this before): 90% is genetics, so if he feels good and healthy and if he doesn't have immune system issues all the time, he should be fine. I am not exactly thin but perfectly healthy at age 50. Some of my friends who do lots of sports and lead a healthy lifestyle (one is even Vegan), all have health issues, mainly heart issues but there is also one diabetic (and he was never overweight, on the contrary).

Keeping track of food intake is a good thing but when people are very thin and underweight (body mass index can also be useful here...) and are obsessed with the food intake, I would start worrying. The one friend I have who is probably almost as thin is a marathon runner, he runs 20-30 km per day (no exceptions, sun...rain...snow) and up to 100 km on weekends but he eats as much as he wants, doesn't care about his food intake (seriously, he always eats double the food I do and goes through a larger chocolate bar in a couple of seconds Smiley). I wish I had his metabolism. Smiley

Back to topic now, I don't want to be accused to have switched the topic again. Smiley

That will be a long waitSmiley Mine doesn't get assembled till Oct and might not be delivered till January.

A group of 918 R owners had theirs rushed for a European delivery and a driving tour setup for the last week of Sept.

Would love to see some more pictures of GT Silver with both stripes and would be great to see the White next to the GT Silver...

Can we not have a poll on what would be the favourite colour spec out of White with stripes or GT Silver with stripes?
