    Increasing Airflow to the Engine

    At the PCA event at PCNA's parts distribution center in Ontario California, the PCNA rep said an easy way to increase the airflow to the engine on a 987 boxster is to replace the side air vents to the Cayman style. Supposely they are an exact fit. This will increase airflow to the engine by 30%. Has anyone tried this?

    i've seen pictures, i believe on rennteam (if not here try renntech.org) it looks cool
    i have a problem with the 30% airflow increase- doesn't sound believeable to me

    Even so...unless you're living in Death Valley or the Desert Gobi, I don't see the point of doing that.
    The engine ECU unit isn't programmed to make use of this extra air.

    It's not extra air though--it's still being counted by the airflow sensor--the ECU would still use the appropriate amount of fuel.

    If more air was genuinely getting into the cylinders, the car WOULD make more power. I don't feel like Cayman vents would really have much effect though--it's not like the Boxster has a hard time breathing through its intake tract; I'd have a hard time believing that these Cayman vents would really increase airflow enough to make any significant difference in power.

    Making a blanket statement about "30% increased airflow" would be really irresponsible on the part of the tech. There's two ways you could maybe bump airflow up by 30% across the board (ie. drastically increase volumetric efficiency) without really dicking around with the engine:

    1. Less restriction in the intake/exhaust path.
    2. Forced induction.

    These vents could increase airflow at high speeds perhaps, so maybe a 30% increase in airflow when you're traveling at 100 MPH... ?
