    919 Engine

    Another gem of a race engine from Porsche. Too bad it will likely not see any road duties ever.

    In race tune, 500HP from 2.0L, say gives it a 30% haircut for reliability and it will still puts out 350HP. But like the 918's V8, this little guy is also designed as a hybrid engine from the grounds up, so will need a hybrid system to operate.

    But being a V4, that means it won't fit in a 911 or a Boxster/Cayman, only platform capable of accommodate it will be the Cayenne and Panamera. 

    Or, perhaps a 918-lite, a hybrid 960 with around 550-600HP total.

    Unfortunately, the picture doesn't show the location of turbine and ERS unit - seems to be secret.

    By rumors this engine can give about 700hp. Total power of ICE+Hybrid - 1350hp.

    None of the series car will get this engine or even something close. Its like to put Mercedes PU106 unit into mercedes c classe))) No way.

    Strictly stressed race engine unit made of aluminium billet (its not standard cast aluminium block) which costs as possibly 18 918 porsches for a season (5 or 4 engines per season are allowed)

    This is purely academic, but a V-4 probably could fit in a Cayman, you just wouldn't have the same parcel shelf over the engine you have now, no?  All the hybrid stuff aside.

    WAG really needs to allow the Fe-Fi.

    The black cover is the 'front' facing forward, the big red cover is the air intake, the little red cover below it is the oil exit from the block's integrated oil pump.

    With the exhaust angling upwards, we can deuced the turbo will be above the transmission, and the ERS inline with the turbine.

    I think this is the future of Porsche engines, doing away with belt driven accessories, like the 918. The engine will drive it's own oil pump and that's it. Everything else can run off the hybrid circuit. This provides quite a bit more flexibility in placement of accessories, as they no longer needed to be physically attached to the engine. Also helps with engine efficiency too, as electric accessories only needs to be powered and used as needed, instead of being driven all the time.

    A Subaru 2.0L engine would be a good size estimate, this thing probably is smaller.

    The Subaru flat 4 is 430mm from pulley to back of motor, 830mm edge of cam cover to edge of cam cover, and 600mm tall from bottom of sump pan to top of throttle body.

    I have read that with the new electric Turbo Generation 256 HP per Liter is "easy" do-able on a 4 cylinder - now Combine this with the help of a Little hybrid tech and a few batteries (48v) and you have easily 650 HP - with even lower emissions than today

    Electric turbos do not clog the exhaust, so they sound more like NA (actually supercharged).  But it would sound like a 4-cyl...

    2 kinds. One is purely driven by electricity, those are actually called electric supercharger.

    The other kind is a conventional turbo driven by exhaust gas, but a electric motor keep the turbine spinning while off boost or spool it up first to build boost.
