Yes special for sur and like i said body panel in Carbon and the 4.0 RS, very light...But the number of 900-1000 never heard that like i said 500-600 worldwide cars...

    What does-It mean very light ? The 997 gt3 RS 4.0 is 1360 as it's best !

The 911 R is rumored to be lighter than the GT3 and GT3 RS, thus the lightest 911 in the current 911 generation.

Don't expect anything spectacular though, I heard something about 30-50 kg lighter than the RS. At max.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

I do not feel well this story. Especially as the market begins to show signs of fatigue ... Heavier than a 977 GT3 RS 4.0, not necessarily more power than 500 hp for 991 RS owners may be angry, with a higher cost ... all this seems a big marketing effect by acting on the presumption the last aspirated engine ?

The 911 R will not be a track car per se, more a very special 911 for people who are looking for something different and rare. So I do not think that GT3 RS owners would be mad if this car gets more than 500 hp but technically, it won't be possible, even with the RS 4.0 engine because of the thermodynamical issues (car is missing the side vents of the RS).

The last power figure I heard was somewhere between 475 and 490 hp.

Porsche had already sent me a NDA to sign of the sneak peek, which is not happening till the 28th.

They are taking secrecy very seriously this time.

Thanks god I have nothing to sign... (yet). Smiley

You need to be careful, they take that NDA stuff pretty seriously but don't worry, someone here or somewhere else will surely leak everything we need to know afterwards. Smiley

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Here is what I heard through the grapevine yesterday:

    1. the 911 R will be shown in Geneva, it will be a limited edition, but 918 owners will not have any priority in terms of getting one.

    2. there will be a second, even more limited edition, variant to be offered to 918 owners and possibly a few others; details on this variant are still very sketchy.

The second limited edition is supposed to be based on the 991 gt3 RS ?

it's the "cup edition" based on the GT3 RS

But, I'd be tempted to get Silver with Red trim (always like this combo).

The 4 prototype 911 R were in those colors :  Ivory White , Feuerrot , Blutorange and Zitronegelb. The production R were painted mostly in Ivory White (17) and 3 were painted in Slate Grey, Cadillac Gold and Reventlon Blue (which was the last built and the only pure street version rumored to have been delivered with a 2.2 S engine and not the 4 cam). By the way the R3 (prototype n3 - the Blutorange car) won the Marathone de la Route in 1967 driven by Vic Elford and it was a Sportomatic !! So much for everyone wishing for a manual R . Funny.

Don't think any of them were 4-cam.  Racing 4-cylinder Porsches (Carrera, 550, 718, etc.) had 4-cam, but think all the air-cooled 6-cyl were 2-cam (with possible exception of prototype or experimental).  I think the 959 was first 4-cam 911 and had water-cooled heads.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Ok, yeah most were 2.0L making 210hp.  Were they all carburetor based or were any mechanically injected (like 906E)?

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Almost all of them were triple throat carburetors (Weber 46) but on one, the n.17, was installed a 4 cam engine with slide valve injection from the 916 engine (that is why I mistyped my reply before, actually one R had indeed the 4 cam). This was the car that won the Tour de France in 1969.
