I was never really able to answer you about the gearing in Colorado (snowy weather in mountains), so please post your impressions from down under (should be more accommodating weather there).  Don't be shy about using 1st gear on really tight uphill corners (that really helped me in Switzerland).

the decker cyn example is telling, it means first gear on the uphill las flores hairpins e.g.,, but sounds better than expected.  Sun will be in the drivers seat soon......

Any opinions on whether products like in the link below, which help reduce wind buffeting with a window down, would adversely affect air to the intakes?

    Re: Cayman GT4

I think that is too high to be an issue.  I was ribbing the guys on Rennlist about that being a possibility with the front dive planes.  Even there, the interference is likely minor but here I would say nothing to worry about.  I just didn't like the idea of the dive planes for other reasons and was piling on with the remark about losing some ram-air effect...

    Re: Cayman GT4

Thanks.  Seems very minor to me as well, but such a small flap is enough to stop buffeting, so hopefully no issues with rear wing either.

In case our European friends are wondering, windows must be all the way down at track days in the U.S.  Can get annoying, even on the street.

Having the windows down is really stupid.  While the Porsche Club here requires that, it is not required at regular Open Track days (which is all I attend these days).

    Re: Cayman GT4

That rule about windows-down on track events is soo stupid. Not sure if Porsches have it but some manufacturers even wind them up automatically in accident conditions. I'd certainly rather not have my arms flapping around outside the car.

Saw my first GT-4 in the flesh this weekend. Sleek and powerful. Love it.  However, my better half despises the rear wing. Enjoy!!!!

    Re: Cayman GT4

What is/are the reason(s) for the windows down rule?  Here are the ones I can think of:

    1) Clear hand signals for point-bys, pit-in, etc. (though this does not explain why the passenger side must be down too)

    2) Access to driver in case of accident (ditto)

    3) Accidental breakage of window by helmet (ditto)

That's a decent improvement on the street car, but I would think most of that comes from tires alone (real race slicks).  When factoring in the lighter weight and better suspension, I bet well less than 1 sec is from PDK (possibly less than 0.5 sec).

Do not know the track but would imagine this translates to 6-10 secs on a full GP circuit, and that is a lot.

I would really like to try the CS version kiss

It's around 2.5 sec per minute on a very tight and technical track.  Don't think any current GP tracks would give anything close to 10 sec gap (I think only the Nordschliefe).

Having said that, 2.5 sec per minute is a big difference (but not impossible for race tires alone to account for that much time).

    Re: Cayman GT4

Agree the number 10 would be very surprising, but 6 is on the other hand quite realistic. I find that the slicks (coupled with some big balls...) often will add a lot in medium-fast but technical turns. I do agree that the slicks will do most of this, but we should not forget that the CS will do this forever.

    Just got my Sportauto issue.

During the timed lap of the Clupsport some parts of the track have been still wet!!! Christian Gebhardt thinks, that with ideal conditions a 1.06x should be possible.
