    2015 Mustang

For Ford the new Mustang is a big deal. They plan to sell it globally. Unlike the other American muscle cars that just use a beefed up sedan chassis to handle a  400+ hp V8, the new Mustang has its own advanced and unigue monocoque chassis and its body uses a lot of aluminum and blendsof  high strength steels to make it lighter and shift the weight balance rearward. Output will be approx 440hp and 400ft lbs of torque with the base v8 and weight approx 3450lbs. Ford says they used a M3 and a 911 as benchmarks for handling during its development. (They used a 911 and F360 when developing the Ford GT and that turned out well) While it may not handle exactly like those, it might be pretty good door a 2+2 front engine coupe. The trunk is a little bit smaller than a Audi s5 can hold two large sets of golf clubs. Body stiffness is miles ahead of previous mustangs, it has a lower center of gravity, a wider track and a way nicer interior. $40K price about same as 328i.

European will customers get the performance handling package as standard. It is also being built in RHD.

And it has one new automobile feature that BMW hasn't ever thought of: Line Lock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82L2F7aE2j0

    Re: 2015 Mustang

I saw the new Mustang at the New York Car show. It's def a big step up from the previous generation. Good to see them raising their game.

I also saw the new M3/4 and M4 convertible. I'd still go for the BMW for another 20-30k more. I do have a soft spot for BMWs.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

Yes yes, all that good stuff ... also it's ugly as hell.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

I don't know if I would agree that it's ugly as hell  yes  but I would certainly not disagree that it is as ugly as an Aston Martin  wink

    Re: 2015 Mustang

Might be a quicker, better car than a Aston Martin.angry

    Re: 2015 Mustang

I quite like it, but dark colors suit it the best and I would definitely debadge that big ugly GT thing in the back.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

I like the car, but it's not a stunner. It's great value for the money though, as is the Corvette. Line-lock has been around for decades as an aftermarket bolt-on, but's it interesting to see a manufacturer actually offer it as an option. I'll bet the tire companies are happy about it though.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

The 2015 Mustang represents an excellent development from Ford and market success is almost ensured; however, this model does not have as much visual impact as the outgoing model, especially in Boss trim.  The Corvette continues to represent that best value of the American performance automobiles.

True about the Vette, but GM already figured that out and raised the price 5%.  I think the performance versions of the new Mustang will be serious contenders.  The new GT already is faster than Boss 302 at the track and the new Mach 1 and GT350 will be monsters for reasonable money (one a high-rev V8 to 8k rpm and the other twin-turbo V8).  So glad the new car has independent rear suspension finally!

I.R.S, is a major positive; however, the other pony cars have had that for a few years.  Even with the price increase the Corvette remains a relative "bargain" sports car purchase.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

I would actually prefer the Mustang with a 2.0 Ecoboost engine to be honest. At the very least actually, maybe put the Focus ST engine in there to battle with the weight.

I think this car looks nicer and nicer as it evolved!  good job, and interior had now become better!  don't know how it will drive, but this car just need to drive very raw and nasty so people will like it... haha

I can only say that my normanilly aspirated 2.0 has crossed 419,000 miles, but for a heavier car; I do expect more. That is to say in a heavier vehicle with a higher performance expecation: screw the turbo 2.0 and at least start the bidding with a turbo 2.3.

My first Mustang had a 2.3;  it was my wife's car and while weighing about 2800 lbs; it had 88hp and 132 ft/lbs torque. Smiley

It was still great fun to drive and much to my own eventual distraught: when it became my car, it just wasn't enoughSmiley

My mistake, it was still a great little highway cruiser. Smiley

I still miss the days when I could loan my pickup truck to Leawood and borrow his 911, but time passes on.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

I was tempted to get a Mustang GT500 Shelby at around 70k (with SVT package), wonderful fun car, even more fun than the C63 AMG Coupe I had but in the end, it wouldn't have made sense since I already have the 991 Turbo S as a fun car. However, for relatively little money, the GT500 Shelby is really a bargain. This car is going to become an instant classic when the new Mustang shows up. The new Mustang seems to be more refined, technologically but also from a design point of view but overall, I think that the current GT500 Shelby has something from the "old days", some special charm you cannot deny. I really like this car and regret not getting it but it just wouldn't have made sense.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

Actually I like the new Mustang a lot. And I also like the new Corvette. But - same old story, if I would live in America I would buy one for sure, here in Germany you are a pimp - so as social status is kind of important, too I will stay away from those cars. But I really love them!

    Re: 2015 Mustang

2016 Camaro is starting deliveries. While the looks have barely changed the car is actually on an entirely different platform. It now weighs less than the mustang and is once again more powerful. Basically it is a Corvette engine and transmission with a Cadillac platform sold at a Camaro price. I have usually favored the Mustang over the Camaro, but this time I think the Camaro will be a clear winner.

    Re: 2015 Mustang

Good point. I was not aware of these new Camaros but you are very correct. Thanks for pointing that out!  Cheers

    Re: 2015 Mustang

It's an awesome car and will be very collectible if you can get one
