I think it is crap. I know who fisker is and he has done AMAZING work...- the z8, the aston martin db9--- HOWEVER.... he is using someon elses innovation in order to basically tune his own version of what he believes is a car. I don't think that is innovation, I think that is being cheap (I know he is starting out.. but stilll.. if someone must spend over 150k...for a car- they need something unique and made originally for what it is supposed to do.)
Example---- I consider RUF different and an ACCEPTABLE car that is different than a porsche. It is (imo) a porsche tuner, but they go NUTS with the deal. They take apart the car and then do everything different--- but they still SAY that the car that they use as a base is a porsche- what they come out with is BETTER than a porsche- it's a work of art.
One can't say that about a fisker or a Zagota (IMO). A Zigato is a work of art but it's also a different bodied and RESPECTED tuner that makes an extremely unique version of a car- be it aston's or whatever.
Fisker needs to do what SALEEN did- MAKE HIS OWN CAR. I didn't really respect Saleen cars until he made his own S7- not based on anything but HIS DREAM- no parts from anywhere else- the motor is souped up, but the car and everything else is original. That seperates Saleen from MANY builders IMO.
If fisker wants to be a real car builder- he needs to design and build his OWN car from scratch. Not use another car and then change it .. that's tuning. One can tell that the body of an Sl or a 6 series is used for the convertible and coupes- that does nothing for me. Slapping on a changed body (but still using a the basic design of another company's work) and then upgrading everything else is NOT UNIQUE- it's rice imo.
Take for example Spyker... Can anyone tell me that the car looks like any other car on the road? (of course not) it's designed to be what it is and nothing else...
Moreover- no one here's of AC Schnitzer designing a car and calling it it's own. AC knows where it's bread is buttered and understands THAT even if it changes nearly all of the elements of a BMW.... it is still A BMW. The same goes with Fisker. You can put big wheels, big brakes, add some carbon fiber, change the grill work, put in some better seat, change the labels, and hook up the suspension--- but at the end of the day- you wouldn't have a car if ANOTHER company didn't make it in the first place.
Ok, if I was a M6 owner or SL owner who wanted something that actually looks nice, has the same engeneering reliability or a bmw or merc. which are huge companies and have a lot of knowledge and put millions into research, also if I wanted a car that had the comfort of a bmw or merc. and the peformcance of them, and better quality everything, believe me they redo the car a lot, .......................then I would go for fisker. Obviously I would have to be willing to pay a lot of money.
Now with a saleen you get a car developed by a reasonably small company so you don't get the reliability necessarily and its really expensive.
Fisker coachbuild could not afford to build a car from ground up at this point. I have no problem with many people doing what they do, take a well engineered base and making it what it should be.
Also, not everyone cares how exclusive or unique a car is, they want a cool car, and in my opinon a latigo CS with 610 hp, 345mm rear tires, forged wheels, awsome interior, aston martin level design on outside, carbon fibre boddy and improved performance overall is awsome for those with lot of money to spend and who like that type of car. I personally prefer an all out sports car.
With ferrari and all the smaller sports car companies you not only can't get a luxery type thing that some people like, but you don't get the reliability or a bmw or merc.
