Confusion regarding PCM and MP3 playing capability
It seems some people are confused or mis-informed regarding the MP3 playing capability of the 997 PCM system.
Fact is: ALL cars built after april/may 2005, have indeed a PCM system with MP3 playing capability through the internal CD reader only (CD changer still doesn't play MP3 files).
The MP3 capable PCM system also plays WMA files.
BUT: it seems that the CD reader of the PCM is very sensitive to the quality of the CD ROM discs used. It also seems that CD/RW (rewriteable CDs) are less supported than ordinary CD/Rs which can be recorded only once. It also depends how you burn the CDs, it is recommended to burn a CD in one session only and close it completely.
Short FAQ:
1. PCM systems on cars built after april/may 2005 play MP3 and WMA files through the internal CD reader
2. PCM system sensitive to quality of CDs used
3. It is recommended to use CD-Rs instead of CD/RWs (rewriteable)
Hope this helps.
