Re: OFFICIAL: new 991.2 Turbo and Turbo S

I'd take the FF. Has way more space, is fast enough, sounds good.

There is also almost no reason to buy a new Turbo because it merely ups the performance to 991.1 Turbo S levels most likely. In that case just buy a 991.1 Turbo S for $130-140K.

I quite agree that the 991 Turbo has an interior that does not convey any sense of occasion for a car that costs 200 K Eur  . I recently drove the new 991 Turbo (not S)  and can only repeat what has been said here before: it is spectacular and an engineering masterpiece. But at legal speeds and unless you live in Germany where you can stretch it on the non restricted sections of the Autobahn it is really an overkill. Had more (subjective) fun and engagement driving a base Carrera . I have also to admit that I don't really care  about the acceleration and top speed figures but rather more about the emotional involvement the car delivers.

Re: OFFICIAL: new 991.2 Turbo and Turbo S

Wait long enough and the average 911 base model will be quicker than the turbo S. It happens each and every time. For now I am enjoying my manual mezger turbo at minimal expense. I plan to sell it for what I paid for it in a couple of years. I have done this with almost all my Porsches. If I still had all of them I would be able to now sell them for double. Never will I buy new.

Wing delete on the Turbo, or a hidden spoiler like the Carrera would be perfect. Just look at this Turbo S with aerokit enlightened

Just read that in the other thread that you recommend Nick to get a California... Well, please allow me to say: people who consider the FF and/or the California are for sure NOT the target audience for one of the top-of-the-line Porsches... When talking about FF/Calfiornia we are talking about people who primarily want a car with exotic design and aura. These people will have less interest in how a car drives/handles etc. Smiley Personally, I don't know a single car nut with the skills/ambition to really drive his/her cars that would consider a FF or a California. Totally different sector of the market, sorry to say this. The 488 or tdf is different, of course.

New 991.2 Turbo/Turbo S is the best and most usable daily super car (yes, super car!) IMHO.

Yes, exhaust note is not too die for. But, that is the part of its daily usable flair.

The interior thingie will improve with the next generation, I agree...it looks bad.

Leather is not my thing either, too elegant...I prefer carbon, alcantara, etc. on a sports car.

The sound? This is where the FF definitely is much better than the 991 Turbo S, I agree.

MK please put the post back in the context. Nick wants a less sporty setup... That's what the FF and California are.

I just hope your "nut with the skills/ambition to really drive" doesn't do it on the road, there are tracks for that, they should not mix with the rest of the driving populationSmiley

It is amazing how many negative comments you are able to produce. They just keep coming one after another, day after day. As much one tries to ignore you, it seems that you don't have anything better to do with your time but to inject little doses of negativity every few posts. Huh? It was a valid response to the idea that Porsche Turbo buyers are different than Ferrari buyers when it comes to dynamics. Turbo owners or no more concerned with handling dynamics than an FF or California owner.

Hell, unless you switch back and forth between cars constantly, I don't think anyone really notices the change in dynamics between modern exotics when not on a track. I honestly can't tell the difference in anything aside from acceleration when comparing my R8 to my 12C. Why? Because I don't own more than one at a time. I always think it's funny when reviewers talk about how Car A handles compared to Car B, when they haven't driven Car B in years.

If you're buying a road car for handling dynamics, I think you're buying it for the wrong reasons. I mean, you gotta be driving like a madman to really notice anything major. Just like the nonsense about people saying the Huracan has an understeer problem. Riiiiiiight...

You also sound somewhat butthurt by the fact that I'm just not impressed with any 911 offerings aside from the normal GT3.

    nberry:

Well nberry, I'm not sure how old you are, but I think you probably lived through the great era of exotics. I on the other hand was too young to experience most of them and find that even in my early 30s, most modern cars are just not that exciting anymore due to their sheer performance. If you find the GT3 not very usable, I wouldn't expect to buy another exotic again any time soon because the GT3 is probably the most usable and lowest performance of them all on real roads.

Here you confirm my theory: most drivers might not be able to tell the difference between a very nicely done sportscar and a nice looking, loud but not so nicely done sportscar. Truth is, if you have the "sensors", the skills you can tell all the minor differences in terms of drive feel, handling etc. on normal roads. There is a direct link between best lap times and highest perfection in normal driving situations. That's what I meant when talking about FF/California etc.

Most buyers cannot feel these differences but some feel them and they just cannot live with these underperforming show-off cars Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: new 991.2 Turbo and Turbo S

True, but those cars have slower lap times than really the only most modern of 911s. If their lap times are quicker than a 991 C2S, that would imply the 991 C2S has poor dynamics and handling, which most would probably disagree about. There are only like one or two lap times for each of those cars, so I have no idea how they really measure up, but I really do think they have very good dynamics.

I don't doubt someone with very fine tuned skills can notice some differences on very nice country roads with no speed limits or people, but on a majority of roads I think there would be very little difference given the nature of most infrastructure, and I think the dynamics are only poor relatively speaking compared to something very high-end and modern.

There was only like one lap time for each car that I could find, but both an FF and Cali T were quicker at Vairona than a 997.2 Turbo S. That Turbo S isn't exactly an old or bad car...
