I don't understand the discussion around business car or not!

What the heck - just drive your cars private and you don't have to argue with or think about the tax authorizations. I never understood the company owners driving cars based on what the government allows them to do. Matter in fact, lots of my friend are now driving their sports car private and just take a daily beater on the company. Today it is better doing things decent and "underneath the radar".

You have money to throw away? I don't. I try to deduct anything possible and as long as my tax advisor plays ball and the tax office accepts it, I'm in the green. Smiley

Fair enough and fully understood. But toys are toys and business is business.

A huge misunderstanding is that a capital company (GMBH) is standing on its own feet. The managing director has to care about optimizing the profit of this organization. I know it sounds a bit BS but steering and controlling this company has to be in best interest of the company. And if the owner or MD (or maybe both in one person) just wants to optimize the personal advantage than something is wrong. A MD of a corporation has neither the right to act like this and he probably carries even much higher risks. So why the owner of a GmbH should be able to optimize on personal fun except of companies interest? I think can't complain in Germany about this at all (and yes - I'm the one sitting in the executive corporate chair, but my wife is owner and MD of a GmbH - so I know both sides pretty well).

Was at my dealer yesterday and they still had this 918 on display. Apparently it has been sold but the buyer has wait six months to take delivery. Clearly this car was flipped by the owner of the dealership. The MSRP is 1,080,000. The color is PTS Continental Orange. It sold for a little over 2,000,000. Crazy.

Porsche, there is no substitute Smiley

Btw, Chris Harris hypercar test video coming up tonight. Longer track(Portimão-Algarve) so I guess 918 won't win there.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Long tracks are not a problem for the 918, it's tracks with exceptionally long straights, lots of those, and not a lot of corners, that are the problem.  But outside of the Nardo test ring, I don't really see another track the 918 will have a problem with.

Advantage of the 918 is that it can put a lot of distance between it and whatever on corner exits even if the other car can match the cornering speed, the other cars will always be playing catch up on straights, the straights need to be long enough for the other cars to catch and them pass, even catching the 918 is not enough, the strong brakes will mean it will brake later and regains the lead.

Who would design such a track anyway (except tracks used for a specific (research) purpose), the corners are where the differences are made from a driver capability standpoint.

24 Heures du Mans perhaps.  I believe it was in 1990, the FIA decided not to approve of any circuit having a straight longer than 2km.  So the chicanes were added.  But even with the chicanes, race cars are still achieving over 200mph!  918 has exceptional traction getting out of those chicanes though.

Whoopsy, for the road-only events, since they are far from where you live, can loaners be provided like for the Castellet event or do you need to have your car shipped?

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I will likely ship my car down to Atlanta, but for Europe it will be loaners from Porsche, not sure if they will make available 918s again. So could be 911s.

But since I am doing quite a few events there, I might ship it over in the beginning and then use it for the season then ship it back. Haven't decided yet.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

It makes more sense to ship it to Europe since there are more events in Europe and nicer roads to drive it.

Oil leak, possibly RMS. Had to open up the car to check.

I've seen the same Picture here in Zug as well as they are the only Pcenter to be allowed to perform this stage of dismantling in CH - but they made a good comment in saying - everytime we put it together again it's more "updated" than before....kissI could certainly live with that....

Porsche engines are designed to be driven, not sitting around. Seems like the seal needs vacuum from inside the crankcase to seal up properly. When a car is being driven regularly, the seals will be fine, but if it is being neglected, the vacuum inside will be gone and that compromises the sealing hence leaks started to form.

When they opened up the car, there was already almost a litre of oil pooled on the under tray.

This car has only 600kms on the clock and I believe it's been on the road for 6 months now, so basically it was a garage queen.

It a good job we don't see this every day! Hope it's something minor / simple.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

    IMG_5369.JPG

    There is the 'leak'.

Oil is seeping out through the vents on the e-motor, it will either come from the left side of the photo, engine, or the right side, transmission.

But I was told the oil is engine oil, not transmission oil, so it came from the left side.

On some 918s, a little 'sweating' of oil there is normal. My own car was clean when they open it up for service, not a trace of oil on my car at that spot.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

How often you need to drive it (and for how long, for example once or twice a week for 50km)  to prevent this problem?

On a similar topic, how often you do an oil change in the 918?

I put 1,300kms on my F12 in the first 2 weeks, unforgivable ? Smiley

Are people afraid to drive these hypercars or is it depreciation that worries them a lot Smiley
