    STOLEN HEADLIGHTS

    Well, last night my Xenons were stolen on my 06 987S from my parking garage at work in Miami FL. Apparently this has become a real problem down here in Miami. The stupid punks down here steal them and put them in their Honda Civics. Porsche needs to redesign the headlamp to make it more difficult to steal or install an anti-theft sensor. They just popped them right out with minimal damage to the front bumper. Any advice on precautions I can take to avoid this? Is this happening in other parts of the country/world? You can bet that I will be vandalizing every single modified rice burner I see with Xenons. To make matters worse, I have only had the car for 5 weeks and its already been in the shop for a week since my stupid neighbor rear ended it.

    Yes, such behavior is a pain. Unfortunately, there are [censored] thieves everywhere (not to mention keying hooligans).

    This reminds me of the time someone stole the rear seats of my neighbors' car. Mind you, the thieves didn't steal the car stereo, the GPS, the brand new tires, or whatever was in the glove compartment. They only stole the REAR SEATS!
    The police informed them it was very common. In my country, companies may only get a VAT refund on 2-seat company cars. As a consequence, many companies use converted hatchbacks which lack rear seats. Obviously, those are a hard sell on the used market... which has started a cottage industry of rear seat thieves.

    Really sorry and angry to hear about your experience. They're real scum messing around with your car like that.

    What worries me is that every new thing in the USA comes here to the UK soon enough. Guess we have to be prepared for this in the UK then.

    Some time back I saw a number of posts on this topic on different boards, unfortunately it's not isolated. The trade-off in making it more difficult to remove is the thief will mutilate the fender and bumper to get it out. They're after the internals and the electronics, not the shell.

    Have you guys in Florida adapted a kit to sound the alarm if somebody tampers with the headlights? I thought I had read that a Florida dealer had been doing this on the 986.

    I'm afraid xenon theft is a real issue in the US and has been for over a year - its been reported in Excellence magazine on a number of occassions.

    Hope its one thing that stays that side of the pond.

    They sell for 600 bucks per side? Geez, this might rival carstereos thefts since they are indiviually tailored to each brand nowadays!

    I could only imagine, apart from changing the installation during development, to mark your VIN on each of those parts.

    chrisapone, tell me about it, I bought a 987 boxster s 2 months ago and after the third week my lights also got stolen. The thing is I didn't bought xenons, because of the same problem, but instead fitted Hella HID's, it happened at my underground garage in my apartment. I think someone saw me entering my garage and saw I had HID's so they stole them. Insurance will cover under vandalism, you only need to pay a deductible. There are some alarms they sell for porsches so they dont steal the headlamps, they are about 700.

    Good luck, by the way I installed another set of HID's, and I hope they dont steal them again.

    Yes, This has been occuring all over Dade County. I bought my car at Champion in Pompano and when I went to drop it off they mentioned that most of the cars with lights stolen come from Dade. It must be all of the Ricers we have down here with Hondas and other stupid boy racer vehicles. Mine were stolen at 777 Brickell Avenue in a secure garage so you never know when they are going to get you. My advice is to watch who is following you and when in susspicion just floor it and lose them in the dust. Did they damage your bumper when they took them out? Where do they have these headlight alarms?

    chrisapone, mines where stolen in brickell also, infront of wallgreens (i live around there). Almost no damage was done, only the brackets that hold the headlamp. This guy that sells them is in bird rd and about 3 blocks west of red rd, its a wheel store, I forgot the name, the guys name is Moe, he is the owner. Also at The Collection there is someone that sells them, but that one I dont know who he is. I am gonna get you Moe's phone #. Maybe he'll give us a price if we buy 2 (i also want one).

    Now everytime I approach my apartment garage, I turn the light off and just use the fog lamps so no one notices I have HID's.

    Very sorry to hear of this crime against you! I have a BMW with Xenons and it is not possible to access the lights from outside. I know Infiniti's had this problem with lights being stolen, but this is first time I have heard of it on a German car! Yes, they will either be on some punk's Honda or on Ebay very soon. What a shame!
