My father had a blue/ red combination Super 90 cab in the 50's. Amazing!

It's a wonderful color combination but it is so rare.  That's the surprising part to me.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

If Porsche offered a 991 GT3 Komfort (a sort of de-spec'd 991 R but WITH back seats), I would be a buyer in a heart-beat. Some of us have to live in large cities where it is practically difficult to have more than 2 cars, so my 2nd car also needs to be somewhat practical so one can go out with the kids in the back on the weekend. The back says are a binary issue for me and am sure I am not alone in this. Also, don't gauge me on pricing just because a bunch of speculators are pushing prices up. This car I would keep for the longer term, last of the NA engines, would be a great.

Saw a short video review of it on Evo,  sounded good, had impressive performance.  I would not worry about the 991.2

Nice video. My first 911 was that color and also a manual. Thirty years ago.

My sales guy  was in Tenerife for official test drives . He said, there was also an AMG GT-S, BMW's , Jaguar etc.... to test drive along . The only other car he realy liked besides the Carrera , was te AMG GT-S . Loads of fun when you turn the driving aids off .

Anyway, his driving impressions of the Carrera S, where '' positive'' . Sound on normal is .... silent, very silent, nothing . On sports it sounds inside very nice, with loads of growl .  The torque is good and nice and make the car feel very fast, but.... you get much too quick to red line and gear change and this is not nice .....

Funny, all of the people attending the event said the same. Smiley They couldn't care less about the other cars (BMW, Jaguar, etc).

Mostly a problem with manual. PDK in auto mode is perfect.

Car without sport exhaust is indeed quite quiet and the worst part seems to be the fact that the sport exhaust is, according to rumors, not retrofittable. So if you don't get it, you're stuck with the quieter sound. Even worse: According to engineers, aftermarket solutions will be difficult to implement because they will cause a "dent" (whatever this means) in the power and torque curve. Apparently the new sport exhaust required a lot of developing work and some changes in the architecture and length of the pipes (sorry, don't know the correct English word for it). Long story short: It took the engineers a lot of work to find the right sound with the right configuration.

991.2 sport exhaust is very expensive .. in the UK, it's a £1773 option

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

A decent aftermarket system will probably be more than that..

New Porsche website update. To be honest I am not entirely sure if this is new or not.

There will always be lag and non-linear throttle response with turbocharging.  It can be reduced, but not eliminated.  The new electric turbos claim to eliminate lag, but even if true, that is a form of supercharging rather than pure turbocharging.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I don't see anything to complain about.  It's like a GIANT Christmas present for all Porsche lovers.  Twin Turbo for all!  How great is that?  I would have never suspected that anyone would complain about that.  Have your cake and eat it too.  The older NA models including GTS will drop like flies (price wise) once the new cars are in peoples hands - especially once the 992 comes out.  They will not be collectibles for a LONG time if EVER since there were so many built and current cars will be so much better.  A base Carrera with a PDK would be a great second car for me when I just need to get from A to B or to the lake.

The thing worth complaining about is the lack of choice.  Used to be big turbo power and torque for those who wanted it and razor sharp throttle response and high revs that lets you balance a RWD 911 right on the edge by steering with small metered doses of the throttle pedal, for those who wanted that.  Also sucks that there is no 911 for anyone on a reasonable budget or for someone who doesn't want a whale of a car (park a 991 next to a 993 or older some time)...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

    Turbocharging, supercharging, and all that:

    1) Turbocharging is a form of supercharging; 2) it so happens that when the supercharger is driven by hot exhaust gases spinning a turbine, it is called turbocharging; 3) all of these are technically (i.e., in engineering speak) "charge compounding", with "supercharging" being the less technical moniker.

    2) Electrically driven / assisted turbos (or for that matter electrically driven superchargers) can do what a traditional mechanically driven supercharger can't do, namely, spin up "in anticipation" of demand; i.e., ahead of engine speed.

Good point - should be interesting to try this technology

Looks like Porsche's sister companies are starting to show that technology roadmap with greater clarity:   http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/audi-plots-new-petrol-electric-hybrid-powertrain-2017

The Bentley Bentayga has a 48 volt system for its active roll bar system; this is one of the first production applications in the Volkswagen Group.   Perhaps, a bit of 48 volt magic will be seen on the 991.2 Turbo.

    Very interesting video.

I wondering how they made it - the car drives fast and the camera goes all around. Maybe the whole thing is computer graphics? yes

Nice! Love the new LED-headlights. They got rid of that "led-ring" and now it looks more agressive with 4 bigger LED-dots as DRL kiss
