    SIMONIZ System 5

First, for you folks who had a car on the vessel that came into Baltimore on Sunday, my car arrived at my dealer in NY today, so should be soon for you if not at your dealer already. Second, and as to the posted topic, does anyone know about the referenced product? Dealer is recommending. I do not mind the charge if people have had good expirences. Thanks for the help.

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

Is the dealer applying for free? I just think it's another way to make money off of you if the dealership is charging. You can enjoy doing the car on your own, with other products - I'm sure more people on RT will chime in with their preference.

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

    $$ for the dealer. Period.

For the same funds you can probably buy several years supply of carnuba.

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

Save your $$$ on that sort of crap. I remember several months ago a newbie was offered some sort of teflon protection...Its a dealer profit center. Invest instead in a clear bra, and wax your car yourself. You will enjoy the experience.

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

Do it yourself! It will save you a lot of $$$

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

Tell 'em AJ. Dealer is only looking to maximize profits. The are MANY other products far better and less expensive. McGuires, Zaino, Griots, just to name a few.
    Do it yourself. Satisfaction guaranteed!!

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

Snake oil! Dealers biggest profit item! I'd decline the offer.

Go home, wash the car, clay the finish and put on your own sealant or wax.

Some new sealants out: FK1USA (Meguiars family member) which looks very nice and has good reviews. Another: Menzerna FMJ. The standard sealant for show cars: Zaino.

Waxes: P21S for silver or light color finishes, Souveran paste for red/black finishes, Nattys, Collinite etc.

Invest in some high quality Micro-Fiber towels (not cheap Target/KMart type) for drying and removal of wax/sealants and one plush MF for quick detailing.

I'd highly advise you check Autopia.org or Detailcity.org for more info, reviews and thoughts.

    Regards,
    Deanski

I agree with almost everything else you said, but wonder why one would need to clay a new car. I believe that clay is supposed to be used to remove surface contaminates from paint. What surface contaminates would there be on a car that just had the plastic sheeting removed from it? Clay was originally used by body shops to remove overspray. I would only think about claying a car that has sat in the dealer's lot for some time. You shouldn't need to clay a new car that has just come in. What are you removing?

Thanks all. Said no to the treatment. Collecting the car tomorrow. 997 C4S GT Silver with Cocca interior. Its supposed to rain, but guess I can live with that after a long wait for the car.

I'll be claying my new ride when i pick it up. Of course my pickup is in Stuttgart and is about a 4 hour trip from home. From the sites that I have read it doesn't hurt to clay after delivery and the drive home as it will ensure the best possible results and protection once the sealants and wax are layered on.

Here is what www.carcareonline.com has to day about the use of clay:

"Many people are touting overspray clay as the new way to "clean" your paint. This is somewhat like washing your face by peeling off the top layer of skin. You will uncover a layer of fresh clean skin, but this may not be the most comfortable nor beneficial experience for your face. Clays smooth the surface of paint by grinding off the microscopic high spots of your paint, much like sandpaper smoothes a piece of wood. They are the best way to remove paint overspray, tree sap build up and other impossible to remove surface contaminants. Realize that you are also removing some paint with the contaminants, so usage of a clay should be utilized only after all other more gentle methods of cleaning your paint have failed."

    Re: SIMONIZ System 5

Ah, excellent haven't seen that site before. Thanks for the site info! Is there any paint protection at all straight from the factory?
